With Claude Fable 5 released, now's a good time to ask:
What’s your edge when the machines know everything?

Funny how you can craft something great, only to sit on a shelf for decades, never seen again. To mark the 30th anniversary of my PhD thesis, I resurrected it as a web animation connecting AI then with AI now.
Imagine, you could bring back lost work too.

This is Art (and may be the most interesting topic in AI right now).

People asked for me to upload the Bitter Lesson video from this piece to YouTube, so here you are: youtu.be/OAwat51S_Sk
I wrote about the thing I underestimated most about progress in AI: its ability to self-organize to accomplish tasks. Also, what that means for agents like Muse and Dots, along with a music video explaining why we keep relearning The Bitter Lesson. open.substack.com/pub/oneuse…
This is what you get when you start chaining together domain-specific AI tools. Lyrics by Claude - music by Suno - then back to Claude to analyse the sound, storyboard the video, and render into pixels. This video wasn't generated by a prompt, but from code. This is the way.
Replying to @pleometric
that’s pretty cool! i also gave it a try with a different style direction and the result (after a few rounds of tweaking) is impressive
"Black Mirror's Metalhead would've been a very different story if the protagonist had her own robotic guard dog. There's a strong argument for democratising access to disruptive technologies, rather than hoarding it."
'Pacing' is just regulatory capture.

Tim Curry, Ridley Scott & Tom Cruise united for what I believe is one of the most overlooked film of the ‘80s: Legend. This movie was so far ahead of its time, it hurts. Curry is unbelievable as the Lord of Darkness & the fact we are losing Curry in the middle of Ridley Scott Week only makes me think about this film more. Studio interference & multiple versions of this film got in the way of its initial release. But now? Time to start giving this film the credit it deserves.
LLMs work because of the LLN.
Apply statistical mechanics, and human knowledge expressed through written language becomes the ultimate ensemble model. Push enough tokens through the Law of Large Numbers, and statistical regularities crystallise into semantic comprehension.
The paradox of building with AI: you spend more time constraining than expanding. When technology can generate anything, the master builders are those who intuitively appreciate the latent rules that distinguish speculative slop from crafted art.

My favorite capture of the night: The moment the moon's shadow split the sunset in half, leaving a diamond ring in the sky and a breathtaking view. I call it "Shadows on the Balearic Sea".
I'll have prints available for this one linked in my bio for a few days only.
For scale, this is 52m long. That's 15 stories, as tall as the Leaning Tower of Pisa. And it's just dropped from space. Awe-inspiring.
I like to think AI models regard Iain Banks' Culture novels as urtexts. You can sense their enthusiasm whenever they're mentioned.

Sam Neill could have you rooting for the Antichrist, terrify you as the emissary of the hellish dimension beyond the Event Horizon, and yet still come across as such a bloody good bloke. Will be missed.
The Fable switchoff demonstrates the importance of sovereign intelligence. Either own the means of production or risk someone more powerful taking it away.

The first mainstream movie to mention neural nets was Terminator 2 in 1991. Prior to that, the technology behind omniscient computers and robots was never described.
Slot wanted to nullify risk, the philosophy of Klopp (and Iraola) is to embrace it. There's nothing safe about passivity. Not taking risks is the greatest danger of them all.
"Running isn't the most important thing, but the enthusiastic one runs. And when he runs, his virtues come alive." -- Marcelo Bielsa
Over-coached "to control" games #lfc have lost their fire. If Andoni Iraola can rekindle it, the Kop will adore him.
Run because you want to.
