Abstract disentangled low D representations are great for generalization but are not efficient for memory storage. The hippocampus seems to increase dimensionality to fix this problem. Published in Neuron, with a wonderful team @LaraBintheBrain, @LorenzoPosani, S. Siegelbaum

⚖️ Is there a computational trade-off between memory and abstraction?
📐 How does the geometry of the neural code control this trade-off?
🧠 What are its implications on social memory and familiarity?

Possibly unpopular opinion: most science grad programs aren't set up to train students for non-academic paths. We should have more training programs for students who are interested in science but ultimately don't want to become scientists (in the sense of running their own labs).
