Personal news: I'm proud to announce that after 14 months, 3 failed audits, and sending certified mail to a dead man, I have retitled and registered a very small boat trailer.
Thanks to everyone who supported me through the process. No bureaucratic hurdle is too high.

Cubs: We have one of the most beautiful, historic ballparks in the world, so revered that it is a literal federal landmark.
Brewers: We have a roof.

Outside in its heyday was one of the best magazines that ever existed. I'm proud I got to be part of that. It was thriving before the pandemic, and I firmly believe it would have thrived again post-pandemic if it had remained a stand-alone brand. What a waste.

As you may have heard, most (not all) of the people who produce Outside magazine (and the website) were laid off on Thursday. The ex-ME has a complete archive of issues going all the way back to the 1970s. If anybody knows of a library that might want to house these, lemme know.

Let me tell you a story – one of the more haunting I’ve seen in 20 years of journalism. It’s about greed, death and denial. It took two years to unravel one doctor’s myth, a hospital’s complicity in creating it, and a documented trail of suspicious deaths… 🧵

Sen. Jon Tester, living his best life, does not care to answer questions about Joe Biden pardoning his son: “I’m about to get the fuck out of here. Ask somebody else,” he tells reporters with a wide smile.
It's been a privilege to write for @TIME about some of the world's most influential climate leaders in 2024, including this piece about Grenada's prime minister and his efforts to create climate resiliency. I hope you'll give it a read!

“[Baseball] breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart.
“The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone.
“You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.”
— A. Bartlett Giamatti
In January, just after Lauren Boebert quit the CD3 race, I began following Adam Frisch around Colorado looking to see how he'd evolve—and if he could still win—without an extremist opponent. Here's what I learned in the process. @5280Magazine #copolitics

"This game is nuts."
This might be my favorite story I've written this year
You can't be in 2 places at the same time. But ...
You CAN play for 2 teams in the same game. Danny Jansen could do that next week.
So I talked to him - & a minor-league legend who has been there, done this!

Paisley does not own a couch or a TV. At age 86, she still hits moguls and thinks we could all complain less and ski more. Thanks, @skimagonline, for running my conversation with an 86-year-old Winter Park legend.

“when a 5280 reporter joined the public CECFA board meeting on April 24 where leaders discussed the future of the Stanley Hotel, Heller used the “executive session” clause of Colorado’s Open Meetings Law and made the meeting private.”
When I started looking into the sale of the Stanley Hotel few weeks ago, *very* few people wanted to talk about it. I tried to sift through the confusion anyway for @5280Magazine

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited Denver today to see a project repairing harm done by an interstate that bisected a community of color. I asked him if he thinks about which infrastructure decisions today will be viewed unfavorably by future generations. #copolitics

Multiple reports of an elephant from the Jordan Circus that got loose and was walking along Harrison Avenue in Butte.
Yes, really.
Hope to get some more info #mtnews
It's been a hoot working on recent stories for the brand-new @wildsamguides magazine. For the April issue, @brianMT let me drive someone else's very expensive rig directly into a snowstorm—very few questions asked! Keep an eye out for more.
