The government are all over the place on defence spending. I don't think Andy Burnham realises he commits to spending 3% of GDP on defence by 2030 in this interview...his Defence Secretary won’t even make that commitment! When the government are saying Britain needs to be ready for war in 1000 days, hitting a defence spending target in 2035 is too late. Getting to 3% by 2030 means spending the money to be ready NOW, not in 9 years time.
‘You’ve just spooked everybody by saying stockpile…what are you doing to invest in defence?’ Susanna Reid challenges the PM on whether he will hit the defence spending target of 3% of GDP by 2030. Andy Burnham insists his government ‘will’ hit the target. #defencespending #andyburnham #defence #budget

So a pensioner with an income of £13,000 from a mix of state and private pensions will pay income tax, but a pensioner with the same income solely from the state pension won't pay a penny? How is that fair?
🚨 NEW: John Healey will announce pensioners will be protected from paying income tax in the Budget The state pension will rise by £489 to £13,036 with the tax-free allowance rising to match

The Burnhams of this world think you're as thick as pig muck. Half the EU is already buckling under mass migration. Anyone who tells you free movement wouldn't drag that problem straight across the Channel is talking out of their backside. Every migrant handed a passport in Paris, Berlin or Stockholm gets a free ticket to Britain. And that's the real game. Sign up to free movement, then shrug and say "sorry, Brussels won't let us control our borders." It's cowardice, pure and simple. Technocracy over democracy. Brussels over Britain.

I am hearing that Andy won't make a decision about Rosebank. He will leave it to his energy minister. How weak this man is. He seems totally incapable of making anything more than trivial decisions. This is not leadership, this is pathetic.

Strong sense this Government is just corrupt.
‘That’s £190,000 per person…’ ‘We could buy them all a house!” @NickFerrariLBC runs the numbers on the government's pledge to end rough sleeping by Christmas.

Bullshit @bbcnews headlines like “Pensioners to be shielded from tax” is lazy, socialist leaning rubbish. #Healey is proposing a very small amount of cover for the poorest pensioners only. Caused by him not indexing the personal allowance. Why not index the personal allowance for all?

Billions sent abroad while British children go hungry. OUR money. OUR people. OUR country. FEED OUR OWN FIRST! Britain is not the world's charity bank. Putting British people last is a disgrace. Make Britain’s people the priority! Labour and the Conservatives have both betrayed us.

It was a lie. Like their whole 2024 manifesto.
Angela Rayner now admits Labour's promise to build 1.5 million homes was "always a stretch target". Translation: they knew it would never happen and said it anyway to get your vote. Every pledge is a lie. Every single one.

England was founded in 927. Next year, England turns 1,100. We must celebrate!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
They STOPPED teaching the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ANGLO-SAXON 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 STORY. Here’s a brief introduction to it. 🧵 Fifteen hundred years ago, England didn’t exist. Angles. Saxons. Jutes. Open boats across the North Sea. They carved the island into seven warring kingdoms. ⚔️ But they built. Churches. Laws written in English, not Latin. Shires, your county was drawn by their hands over a thousand years ago. Then the Vikings came. And nearly ended everything. By 878, every kingdom had fallen. Every king had fled or died. Except one. A 28-year-old hiding in a marsh called Alfred. He fought back. Built fortified towns. Retook London. Wrote a legal code. Translated books into English. He wanted a nation that could think, not just fight. His daughter commanded armies. His grandson became the first King of all England. 927 AD. 👑🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 In 1066, the Normans destroyed them. For 200 years, the English were ruled by people who didn’t speak English. But the Normans couldn’t kill what the Anglo-Saxons built. The language survived. The shires survived. The common law survived. The idea that a king answers to his people. That survived. It became Magna Carta. Parliament. The jury. Us. Every word you’re reading right now is rooted in Anglo-Saxon English. Next year, England turns 1,100. Most people don’t even know it has a birthday. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 We’re going deeper. Follow so you don’t miss it. 🇬🇧🙏 What were you taught about the Anglo-Saxons at school? Or were they just… skipped?

I’ve written many times about how the soft left on Labour’s backbenches are ‘economic illiterates’. This is proof positive. Beyond redemption in its misunderstanding of markets, supply, demand, taxes.
Nope, that’s not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply. Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a company’s cost ie supply. Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Corporate profit taxes do not directly shift marginal costs but empirical studies show partial pass-through into higher consumer prices. Windfall taxes on oil and gas have deterred investment and production in practice despite theoretical efficiency on rents. dadun.unav.edu/server/api/cor… ecb.europa.eu/pub/pdf/scpwps… taxfoundation.org/blog/big-oil-p… scottishfinancialreview.com/2025/09/03/win…

If the whole country does not realise that Burnham is a liar and cannot be trusted on anything by now, then the voters in Makerfield certainly do. He was elected on the pledge that Brexit was sacrosanct, no retreating and as soon as he is elected, that pledge is flushed down the toilet.
