After tonight's meeting, it looks like the bar is safe for now — and other businesses in similar situations might be, too.
ICYMI, here's some background on what @jbuglawrence proposed. ▶️

Dante Colombo, managing partner at @jbuglawrence, told #LawrenceCityComm he was born and raised here, and he first spoke to the commission at age 9 when his class wanted to paint a mural on a building downtown.
“I hope to continue be a part of the story.”

We understand that this can be a divisive issue, and that our proposal is only one part of a bigger conversation, but we truly appreciate the outpouring of community support.
John Brown’s Underground, a craft cocktail lounge in downtown Lawrence, has made a creative addition to the local bar scene since it opened in 2014. But a city code designed to limit liquor sales downtown is now threatening the business’s future.

We could not be more appreciative of the light that @LawrenceKSTimes has shone on this issue, and on our proposed variance to the city code. Per usual, @mclarknews and her team have done truly impressive reporting work.

Don’t miss out!
Really proud to be Kansans tonight
BREAKING: @NBCNews projects that Kansas will reject constitutional amendment to remove abortion protections. Kansas secretary of state estimates, anecdotally, that turnout for today's election could be almost 50%.

Make no mistake: @lawrenceks cares deeply for Barbados Rum, and we are so lucky to be a friend to those who produce and advocate for it

Fantastic cocktail menus, when I grow up I want to be like you guys!
With each and every cocktail that we serve, maintaining integrity in the spirits that we use is our foremost concern.
Barbados Rum has long been a leader in setting this example.

🥺 incredible words coming from you. We cannot wait to visit again soon! teapaw.org/ThaddeusSealy/status/1…
You have our support, forever and always 😎
Thank you for the constant education, and for remaining such a force for good. Can’t wait to drink a @DoorlysUK + Clayton’s Kola Tonic again with you soon (and maybe even eat some chefette’s!)
Last night’s announcement is massive news for native rum producers in Barbados, as they stand committed to protecting their heritage and intellectual property in the face of opportunistic foreign conglomerates. teapaw.org/ThaddeusSealy/status/1…

It’s the last day to register to vote in KS for the 8/2 primary, when KS will be the first state to vote on abortion since the repeal of Roe v. Wade.
Anyone can vote on 8/2, regardless of party affiliation or lack thereof.
