Two super paintings of villages on the North Yorkshire Coast by Abigail Featherstone - Sandsend and Ruswick. Purchased from the Gael Gallery in Grosmont. For me, her style perfectly reflects the essence of these delightful villages.
How nice to get a Jersey tiger in my moth trap yesterday. Gower peninsula. Couldn’t get a good photo with its wings open.
Finding this well-worn moth difficult to identify. It is the same size and shape of a turnip moth but markings are very worn. Buff ermine gives scale. Thanks v much for previous ID.
Replying to @BSBIbotany
@BSBIbotany Sedge looks like ‘extinct’ Carex trinervis. Stem very smooth, glaucous, edges blunt. Leaves glaucous, channelled. Photos taken on iPhone 13 Pro - colour distortion possible. Specimen found in Oxwich dunes, Gower. Hope it isn’t trinervia as I took a specimen!
@BSBIbotany Thanks v much for obtaining opinions from specialists. C. Flacca was my initial id (v common at site). In the case of this specimen, it was the shape of the female glumes (sharply pointed) and the lowest bract over-topping the inflorescence that put me in doubt.
I would also appreciate assistance with this worn looking moth found on a ceramic plant tub. Its size, shape, dots on the wings and pink leading edge of the forewings resembles several of the ‘waves’ but the heavy black markings are puzzling - vague likeness to Treble brown spot?
@MothIDUK Please could you confirm which of the yellow underwings this is? It is approx 3cm long. Thanks.
@MothIDUK @OwainGabb could I please have ID for this rather worn moth found dead on the ground rather than in our trap. Bishopston, Gower, VC41. Is it orange footman or rosy footman? Owain found orange recently c 2 miles from here though scarce in VC41.
Forgot to tag @nybirdnews when tweeting this earlier in the week. LT duck may be of interest but don’t know if it is still there.
