Twitter's been an unbearable cesspit of hatred and toxicity for a long time, and while "when will Elon's incompetence make the whole site literally unusable" has sometimes been a fun game, the only thing that's made me occasionally come back from time to time has been the lack...

...of an alternative. Now there is a clear winner. I can't say I'm thrilled to be going from Elon's platform to Zuck's, but he's not actively promoting Nazis, so it's better than here. Friends & comrades, if you come over to Threads, you can find me there with the same name.

The earth is incredibly resilient, it just needs us to stop trying to kill it. We could stop at literally any time, and the world would start healing immediately.
I know climate stuff is bad right now: the charts are scary, the numbers are really high, the air is smoky, etc But we can turn this around. The Earth is incredibly resilient This is my land. It was a cattle & corn monoculture, clear-cut repeatedly. 60 years of neglect later…

Yesterday a Guardian story about record pupil absence in the UK once again repeated debunked misinformation about children being sick more because of a lack of exposure to viruses. Guardian editors don't seem to be getting it, so let's debunk it again 🧵

My unpopular opinion: Occupy was one of the most revolutionary movements of the past century, b/c it provided a space where people were learning to live and organize w/o hierarchy. The way that law enforcement came together to shut it down shows they understood the threat posed.
I find it really telling there's no historical marking of how important the Occupy movement was. There's a huge push to say that Gen X and millennials weren't standing up when that is just...wrong. Occupy spread across the globe 951 cities in 81 countries. It was brutally stopped

The five men who lost their lives on the Titan have been getting wall-to-wall coverage in the media worldwide. Meanwhile, the estimated 700 who died when the Adriana sank off the coast of Greece, mostly women and children, have been essentially forgotten. democracynow.org/2023/6/22/a…

Comparing things to "Newspeak" in Orwell's 1984 is pretty pat, but just like Godwin's Law, there's an exception for when things really are going in that direction. So let's talk a bit about the claim that "cisgender" is a slur.

There's really no debate here, just right and wrong. Really, that's true about the whole larger issue of trans rights. Trans rights are human rights. But even if you disagree, I would hope that you agree that it's better for language to exist to describe a concept, even if you...

...want to argue that concept is bad. If you're satisfied with winning by controlling language to make it impossible to even express disagreement with you, that shows that on some level you know the position you're defending is indefensible.
