I don't really hang out here anymore but I know a lot of people still use this place to connect so I thought I'd do a new pinned intro thread 👇🏾 Hi! I'm Dr Jen Gupta and I'm a self-proclaimed Professional Space Nerd...
A photo of me standing in front of the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank. I've got my arms outstretched, my head slightly back and I'm smiling at the camera.

Ralphie doesn't seem very impressed that the polling station is on our usual morning walk route #wheresmybreakfast #dogsatpollingstations

For some reason my #DogsAtPollingStations post from 2017 is getting a few likes today so here's an updated version 7 years on! Same dog, same political party affiliation, different polling station.
A photo of my dog Ralphie sitting in front of a Polling Station sign. He's a black and white springer spaniel and is sitting on the left of the photo facing the camera with his tongue slightly out. He has a blue harness on and a blue lead clipped to it. The Polling Station sign is on the ground behind him on the right of the photo, leaning against a green hedge.

POTHOLES!! Worse than ever this year, according to road experts - we have a special report and look for some answers locally. And have you been intrigued by the #NorthernLights? .. does citizen science work? With @jen_gupta #PoliticsSouth from 10 on BBC1 📺

In what little free time I have I like to go swimming, read fantasy books, listen to early 2000s emo and pop punk, and hang out with my dog Ralphie( dog tax attached).

I mostly still post on Instagram (where I'm jen__gupta with two underscores) so you can find me there if you want random insights into my daily life. It's been nice knowing you Twitter!

They used a photo of me while they were talking about this on the One Show earlier so I guess the cat's out of the bag - I'm so excited to be in a couple of episodes of @astro_timpeake's #SecretsOfOurUniverse which is airing later this month on Channel 5!
A photo of my TV with a image of me standing next to Tim Peake on it. We're both looking at the camera and smiling.

In true Jen fashion, I posted this and then buried my head in the sand when it was more popular than I expected and the replies were overwhelming! Thanks everyone for your kind words, the promotion officially kicked in this week but still doesn't feel real!

It's been announced in an all-staff email so I guess it's ok to publicly say that I've been promoted and as of September I'll be an Associate Professor in Public Engagement and Outreach 🥳 Feeling grateful that @portsmouthuni recognises non-traditional academic roles like mine!

It also happens to be my 11 year PhD viva anniversary - at that point I don't think I ever thought I could have built a career out of public engagement (the fun parts of the PhD for me!) but here we are!

I'm a bit late posting this, but I had an absolute blast at @bluedotfestival last weekend! I found myself feeling surprisingly emotional returning to @JodrellBank - so much of where I am today can be traced directly back to being a student there 📡

Plus it was great to see the @ExplorerDome folks and my kiddos loved their show! Although I think the 4 year old would have been pretty content to just spend the entire weekend messing around in the mud...

So yeah, big up @ProfTimOB, @_TeresaAnderson and the @bluedotfestival crew for putting on such an epic weekend, particularly given the unbelievably muddy conditions! How do I get invited back next year???
