2022 was a big year! Almost exactly one month before my due date, I received my first NOA from the @NIH @NIH_NHLBI. It can sometimes feel anticlimactic by the time the grant lands in our hands but seeing my first grant in my first baby’s hands is anything but.

Grateful to be a part of a department that recognizes the work behind securing NIH funding and celebrates the milestone of having a K or R funded for the first time - also thrilled to see that 22 of the 29 awardees celebrated today are women 🙌🏻

In the wake of my own pregnancy, I’m even more motivated to investigate the relationships between adverse pregnancy outcomes (#preeclampsia and #pretermdelivery) with subsequent mental health conditions and cardiovascular risk through this #NHLBI K01.

What that photo doesn’t show are the 3 unsuccessful submissions and the years spent revising + refining, lamenting + learning. Many early career fac don’t get the opp to apply for a K 4x and I’m forever grateful for the support of my mentors & @BWHWomensHealth. #AcademicTwitter

Thrilled to see our research on the associations between #preeclampsia and gestational hypertension with long-term, maternal #CVD events and mediation by established CVD risk factors published in @JACCJournals earlier this week!
Established risk factors (chronic #HTN, hypercholesterolemia, #T2DM, #BMI) accounted for the majority of the 63% higher rate of #CVD after a hypertensive pregnancy.

You all know the data demonstrating dramatically higher hospitalization rates for unvaccinated folks
But one key point often not discussed?
Around 60%-70% of unvaccinated adults have already been previously infected
Which tells us a lot about infection-induced immunity
