What a week.
The Burbank International Film Festival has come to a close, and I’m leaving it incredibly grateful.
I didn’t take home Best Director — congratulations to Jon Ayon on his win — but as clichéd as the phrase may be, it truly was an honor to be nominated. Seeing my name and Traitor up there alongside three other filmmakers whose work was recognized by this festival was a moment I won’t forget.
And the nomination was only part of the experience.
I met so many wonderful filmmakers, actors and movie lovers. I saw some terrific pictures (STILL ROLLIN'!!!). I had conversations that reminded me how much talent, imagination and sheer determination are still out there among people trying to make movies and get them seen.
I also flew in from London the day of my screening having gotten approximately zero minutes of sleep, and somehow managed to remain upright, form complete sentences, and do a Q&A afterward. I’m told I did pretty well. I remember enough of it to cautiously agree. 😂
I love the Burbank International Film Festival. Thank you to everyone who works so hard to put this thing together, and to everyone I met along the way. I came home with new friends, new colleagues, new inspiration — and an even stronger belief that cinema is worth fighting for.
I’m also incredibly proud of Traitor.
With Burbank, its festival journey comes to an end. Now it’s time for the next chapter: finding the film a forever home on a streaming service and getting it in front of as many eyeballs as possible.
Because beneath the awards, screenings, red carpets and laurels, that was always the reason I made this movie.
Traitor is a story about what happens when we stop seeing the humanity in the people on the other side.
And I believe the more people who see it, the less likely its story is to come true.
The enemy is still human.
Thank you, Burbank. 🎬
We’ve got cinema to save.
Let's do it!

Alien franchise fans will never get over this travesty. 😂
99% of us who saw Alien 3 ALLLL felt the same way!
Why in the hell would you kill off Hicks, Newt and Bishop to start Alien 3?! What's the point of ALIENS when you do that?! One of the stupidest creative decisions ever.
James Cameron And Michael Biehn Were Furious Over What Happened To Hicks, Newt And Bishop After “Aliens”
“I thought that was the stup!dest fucking thing.”
“You spent the last third of your movie saving her.”
“You build a lot of goodwill around the characters of Hicks and Newt and Bishop. And then the first thing they do in the next film is kill them all off, right? Really smart, guys.”
“And replace them with a bunch of fucking convicts that you hate and want to see die. Really clever.”

Concept Concept Concept.
Karate Kid with a Navy SEAL is as clear as they come.
@jockowillink created the Way of the Warrior Kid series because he was unsatisfied with books his own children were reading. In Jocko's world, when you are unsatisfied with something, you act. When Jocko acts, bestsellers result.
I read the book to my kids, and found them doing push-ups and sit-ups afterwards. Something about the character and the story connected with them instantly.
A mutual friend knew Jocko and I asked him to put us in touch.
I pitched Jocko an adaptation that would combine his clear vision with Hollywood's spectacle. We would develop the screenplay on our own, package it on our own, and then bring the project to the town. We shook hands and got to work.
The first step was identifying a screenwriter. A CAA agent was my next call, and from a list of great writers, @StaplesWill name rose to the top. His take was aligned with the vision, and he became the man for the job.
With the writers' strike looming, Will wrote the draft in 21 days.
When concept meets execution, the stars align.
@prattprattpratt read the first draft and attached himself overnight.
I'd recently made a film with McG, and had an instinct that Jocko, Chris, and McG would gel.
The package went to Cannes, and @skydance greenlit the film as part of its relationship with @AppleTV.
The rest is history.
We hope you enjoy the trailer. Years in the making.
Long live the movies.

Nick Sirianni might be doomed. Here’s what Nick Foles said about last nights loss, pertaining to the Eagles culture:
“There is dysfunction in Philly. It was little things for me. It wasn’t the execution that got me. It was culture things. The number one thing isn’t scheme, a fancy coordinator, it’s culture. In Philadelphia, for the better of the past couple decades, they have had really good culture. Something is changing. When they got rid of Jeff Stoutland, that really pissed me off. I knew something bad was gonna happen. He is a great coach. For him not to get the respect that he deserves, that frustrates me.“

Just got the news of the passing of one of my @StarTrek family members, the iconic #WalterKoenig. The laughs, Cons, flights, great meals, beautiful locations, and the moments we shared with fans around the world will live with me forever. Restful peace, my friend.💕#StarTrek

Others who knew WALTER KOENIG better will post far more worthy words today than I, but I’d just like to say how much I admired him, how much his work in @StarTrek has inspired me, and how I honored am to have met him occasionally over the years, including an afternoon in 2019 when we recorded consecutive episodes of the @inglorioustrek1 (His—Permission Granted: Boarding Chekov’s Enterprise—was recorded right before mine, Home Soil: Star Trek on Home Video.) One of my favorite lines from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is when Chekov calls Kirk to say that the nuclear powered aircraft carrier they intend to harvest particles from to save their mission is, in fact, the Enterprise. Gives me chills every time.
Second star to the right, Mr. Koenig, and straight on til morning.

Love this. A fundraising campaign has launched to create a life-size statue of Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert at Prudential Plaza in Chicago. It will even have seats so you can be "At the Movies" with them! 👍🏻👍🏻

We shot the aftermath first. Then redressed everything to shoot the 'before times' after. The ace steadicam operator was Paul Edwards. It was the first day of the shoot on the film too!

Malpractice both by the Eagles coaching staff and the Doctors. What an absolute disaster

Having your quarterback play football after not sleeping for 36 hours following a blood clot diagnose should be one of the largest lawsuits the NFL has ever seen. Everyone involved in that decision should be fired.
Jalen Hurts was told by doctors not to sleep after his initial diagnosis of a superficial blood clot while in London.
Hurts stayed awake for roughly 36 hours before starting against the Jaguars.
(per @TomPelissero)
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Tom Pelissero, the source cited, later clarified after speaking to Jalen Hurts' agent that Hurts was able to sleep after hospital evaluation and felt rested to play.

In 1993, Kevin Costner thought quite highly of himself after starring in The Bodyguard with Whitney Houston, a massive hit. His next part was in a film directed byClint Eastwood. Now Eastwood takes shit from nobody, and he likes to do all scenes in one take. Every actor or actress is expected to be on set on time, say the lines, shoot, and be done. No nonsense
Costner did the unthinkable — he kept Eastwood waiting. Stayed in his trailer and sent a message that he “wasn’t ready”. Kept the whole production waiting, in fact, for a scene. And the old director didn’t flinch, didn’t get mad, he just called for Costner’s stunt double who looks a lot like the guy from a distance. Said: “Give him Costner’s costume!” So the stunt double goes and changes, and they shoot the scene with him, instead. Before you know it, the scene is done.
Kevin Costner comes out of his trailer an hour late, says he’s ready to shoot the scene now. And it’s already done! And this is why I admire Clint Eastwood — he doesn’t accept diva behavior. You’re all members of a team, from the big name actors to the sound guy or the lady doing the makeup and no one is treated any different or given special treatment.

Eagles HC Nick Sirianni (if he was fully aware of the situation), along with the entire medical staff, need to be let go over the Jalen Hurts situation.
Hurts was told not to sleep, for his safety, after a blood clot was found, and then played a football game on 36 hours of no sleep in London.
Now more blood clots have been found and he's out for the season.
The level of disregard for his safety and well-being is astounding.
People need to be fired. A LOT of people need to be fired.

Steven Soderbergh helped Christopher Nolan secure distribution for Memento.
He also helped Gary Ross by serving as second-unit director on The Hunger Games, filming much of the District 11 riot scene. Yes, that scene had Soderbergh's fingerprints all over it.
He's one of the biggest champions of fellow filmmakers in Hollywood. Put some respect on his name.

Usually when a studio replaces a director on a $200M blockbuster mid-shoot, it’s a emergency rescue operation
Steven Soderbergh directing the remaining part of THE BATMAN: PART 2 means an Oscar winner voluntarily signing up as second-unit muscle so another auteur doesn’t lose his movie.
Steven Soderbergh operating as Matt Reeves’ stealth cinematographer in Gotham is genuinly a good approach cinema solidarity

Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes. 🦇

This is amazing news.
Steven Soderbergh will help finish “The Batman Part II” while director Matt Reeves is on hiatus dealing with a personal matter.
Soderbergh said in a statement: “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on ‘The Batman’ was stunning; it was intentional, specific and rigorously coherent. The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”
A studio rep said in a statement: “As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on 'The Batman Part 2.' Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.”
