Reduced feedback, and especially if it’s deliberately faded from specific to general, is a quiet but powerful way to shift responsibility from the teacher’s correction to the learner’s cognition. And that’s exactly what education is supposed to do.

Should a coach aim to be needed for every element of training? The goal is for athletes to execute technically and recall tactics under pressure without constant reminders. #AthleteDevelopment #CoachingPhilosophy

Retrieval practice principles with @C_Hendrick including “Guessing and retrieval are not the same.” A perfect argument against #3cueing . That technique will not embed words in LTM.

Metaphors only really work when they’re meaningful to someone…
At the individual level, metaphors can be awesome when trying to impact behaviour change. At the group level they just struggle to work…
With the greatest of respect this is…probably…not very effective…

You would not believe the quotations we have from inside TikTok. They know what they are doing to children including the addiction ("compulsive use") and attention fragmentation. You've got to read the quotations yourself:

WOW: @JonHaidt got info from inside TikTok admitting how they target kids:
"The product in itself has baked into it compulsive use... younger users... are particularly sensitive to reinforcement in the form of social reward and have minimal ability to self-regulate effectively"

10 things that require skills and competencies

I understand why motivational gurus and (some) coaches love this…but a poster like this can shut down appreciation for human complexity, socio-cultural challenges in players’ lives, and the importance of player-coach negotiation when it comes to behavioural norms, rules, and preferences.
Of course, player responsibility is critical in high performance environments. But overly-simplistic posters like this can do more harm than good. And many players see through them (and eventually ignore them!)
Coaching is hard. And that’s ok!
