Tools give your AI hands. MCP connects them. Skills give it a playbook. @jesstemporal breaks down how these layers fit together, where security can go wrong, and where OAuth 2.1 comes in. 👀

I am looking for my next career opportunity! I'm Corbin Crutchley; an engineering leader, consultant, author, and open-source maintainer. Previously as a VP of Eng, I've sped up engineering efforts for companies. My teams rework large-scale systems while building new features at the same time. You may also know of my OSS projects (@tan_stack & others) or my books (@playful_program). Roles I'm looking for: - CTO / VP of Engineering for small/medium companies - Staff+ Engineering roles, esp developer tooling - Consulting gigs Likewise, if your project is particularly challenging and / or complex, let's talk. Know of a good role for me? Book some time on my website or reach out in direct messages: corbincrutchley.com

step away from the tutorials and the pre-made prompts build something with real users and data you can't lose. you'll hit the boundaries yourself, and that teaches you more than anything else

Your auth stack works in dev. Cool. But is it ready for production? 7 checks to run before launch, from SSO and migrations to FGA and MFA. Read the blog ⬇️ auth0.com/blog/seven-archite…

5 things i'm carrying forward after building a real app with AI agents: judgment matters more. set context boundaries. pick the right model. design needs taste. "make it cozy and trustworthy" beats "make it pretty"

i'm not a designer so i build everything functional first, then make it pretty "make it pretty" gives you generic. define what you want and the tools work better. that's taste

If you thought your job as developer was to just write code you were doing it wrong. Code was NEVER the objective. It was always a tool to solve problems: for yourself or other people. Be obsessed with solving problems no matter what tool you have and you’ll be okay.

Now that doesn’t mean you can’t bring a little whimsy and have fun since you know how to code. The only difference is now more people get to do that since AI can lower the difficulty layer to building stuff. So I repeat: Code was never the objective.

when you're building something new there's no documentation to lean on AI doesn't remove your responsibility for the decisions. if anything it makes it matter more
