BREAKING: Texas is officially Democrats' BEST pickup opportunity, with polls showing Colin Allred and Ted Cruz statistically TIED.
Colin's ready to be the leader Texans deserve in the Senate: Will you chip in now to help him send Ted Cruz packing and keep the Senate blue?

This story is whimsical like a firefly display but serious in describing their plight. Love the insert on how people can protect them.

This matters because the Hard Steps and Great Filter models have a lot of popular salience and get cited a lot, but notably not by biologists, whom you would think would be in the best position to use it.
It turns out a lot of its assumptions are just incorrect!

Excited to see Dan Mills' paper up on the arXiv! @AdamFrank4, @jmacalad, and I had a great time helping him put it all together.
Dan takes a hard, critical look at the "Hard Steps" model (and the Great Filter) and finds it's not well supported.

Study of women in STEM (N=600) finds
- 55% have been 'quietly promoted'--given more responsibility w/o a change in pay or title
- Remote workers (5%) faced less gender-based issues than those working in-person (20%).

Women leave academia at higher rates than men at every career stage, and attrition is especially high among three groups: tenured faculty, women in non-STEM fields, and women employed at less prestigious institutions, a @ScienceAdvances analysis finds. scim.ag/5pH
