A microcosm of American society.
I went through all our front door footage from last night. I swear I did not set out to make a propaganda film.

The average math SAT score at MIT is high 700 even for the women. But that goes a lot further with MIT men than with Harvard men.

The famines that occurred early on in revolutionary societies were in fact the last famines of the capitalist-feudal order that came before. Socialism solved the problem of hunger, which had tormented the peasantry for centuries. Historical records from pre-revolutionary China cite 1,828 catastrophic famines over about 2,000 years, or roughly one per year. These would routinely claim millions of lives. What stopped them? The revolution, with its land reforms and Communist Party forces tasked with serving the people. That process did not happen with the snap of the fingers, but required seismic social transformations — a long struggle of shedding the old and building the new. That is why the last famine occurred after the revolution. We also know what happens when the capitalist dictatorship is restored in a formerly socialist country. After the defeat of the USSR, hunger returned to Russia at levels unseen since the immediate post-war period, when the country was still reeling from the effects of Germany’s war of extermination. The levels of hunger and death imposed by global capital on the people of the Eastern Bloc in the 1990s were historically unprecedented in peacetime.

This photo is a perfect encapsulation of everything wrong with modern policing standards. A woman who cannot even grasp the single most basic rule of firearm safety, keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot, is being publicly celebrated and armed by the Metropolitan Police. Her index finger is squarely on the trigger of a rifle while she smiles for a promotional photo under a banner that reads “Women in Firearms Attachment.” This is not a minor slip. It is the kind of catastrophic negligence that gets people killed. And the fact that a sergeant is standing right next to her, grinning, while this happens tells you everything about the quality of instruction and supervision in that unit. @metpoliceuk if this is the standard your firearms officers are held to, you have no business putting anyone in possession of a weapon. Retrain your instructors, or better yet, stop pretending this is competence. #firearms #incompetence #safety

"The goal of EBT is to give nice things to people who haven't worked for it themselves, so as a result people who have worked for it can no longer afford it." *sees nothing wrong with this*
The goal of ebt is to give people the same quality of life as a "middle class" person. It's literally that simple.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The goal of SNAP (benefits via EBT) is to supplement food purchasing power for low-income households to afford a nutritious diet, not to provide middle-class quality of life. fns.usda.gov/snap law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/7/271… usda.gov/sites/default/…

Diversity makes us stronger and better.
Sunny Honey, a Utah Boba and Desserts shop was forced to close early the other day because a black woman walked in and trashed the place. Unfortunately, this is the price one must pay for owning a business in the United States...

It should be obvious that the people who work to earn money that goes towards providing welfare to people who do not work should get to experience a higher quality of life than the people who being bankrolled by them. This should be obvious.

This entire argument on expensive zoo tickets & a middle class family seeing a woman getting in with her EBT card is interesting. One one hand, we have the takers who argue they “deserve” a day at the zoo. First, it was they “deserve” groceries. Then, they “deserve” section 8 housing. Then, they “deserve” Medicaid. You now “deserve” entertainment at our expense too? Taxpayers are feeding you, housing you, paying for your healthcare, & now, apparently, they are paying so you can take your crotch goblins with 4 baby daddies to the zoo as well?? This is the problem with the “taker” mentality. We give an inch & you take 10,000 miles. The reason the zoo tickets are now unaffordable for working families is because, like everything else, we are now subsidizing your entertainment too. It’s never enough for the takers. You will take & take until we have nothing left to give.

The goal post just keeps moving farther and farther. First it was “EBT is just kids being able to eat. Kids shouldn’t starve cuz their parents are poor” Then it was “EBT should pay for Little Debbie’s because poor kids deserve a sweet treat too” Now it’s “EBT should get you in at the Zoo for basically free because apparently if you don’t see Giraffes you will literally die” Come on guys. What are we doing here

The solution here is to distinguish Orientals from the rest of Asia. Start using the word Oriental! It's the only way to solve this.

It can take a woman years to decide a hookup was rape but the man is supposed to know immediately. Not only is he required to be a mind reader, he has to read a mind that hasn't decided.
It’s crazy bc for years you’ll be like “ohhh no that was just a bad hookup when I was 19” and then it finally clicks years later and then you move on but every few years something Happens and you witness tons more women grapple with the same realization and it never ends

Such a combination of arrogance and lack of shame and accountability.
Eight years ago today the @nytmag published my cover story on school segregation in the great “melting pot” of NYC and the way elite parents and politicians conspire with structural inequality to keep our schools separate and unequal. Eight years later, this sweet baby girl on the cover is getting ready to graduate 8th grade as a bright, empathetic, funny, honor roll student from @uaunison, a non-screened, neighborhood middle school. By test-score metrics many would label this school a failing school, but just as I write in the piece, we judge these schools AND their students without ever stepping foot inside. My daughter is not worth more than any other child. Eight years later, I still know we made the right choice. nytimes.com/2016/06/12/magaz…

The liberal theory of education: 1. forcing good students to go to schools with bad students will make the bad students good students. 2. letting bad students go to schools with good students will also make the bad students good students. In reality it's the other way.
The daughter is correct. I called this at the time.
