I curate a weekly list of the hottest startup/tech events happening in Boston. Every Monday night I send it out via text to a community of 300+ founders/investors/operators. It’s now open to the public. Click below to sign up: markitevents.com/u/jonathan

I’m sorry, it’s not a “successful” startup event if most of your guests are waiting in a line the whole time. Props to everyone that got 1000+ sign ups for their SF Tech Week event, but newsflash, these events actively hurt your brand and are not building “community” as your job title suggests. When I see people posting videos of their long lines at their event, it’s not the flex you think it is. People won’t come to your events in the future since you don’t know how to craft a quality guest experience. Your “sorry demand was incredibly high and despite our best efforts we couldn’t accommodate everyone” afterwards doesn’t excuse it 😬 As someone that’s hosted 100+ of my own startup events, I'm the first to know how much work goes into organizing one, and I applaud everyone putting that work in promoting it. But I can confidently say that any good host can estimate churn better and take more active steps to send out reminders and receive attendance confirmation (e.g. requiring a secondary confirmation is sooo easy and can greatly increase your attendance estimates / cut churn in half). Sending a basic partiful reminder is not doing your job 😂 If you're hosting this week, here’s an idea. Try to send your own confirmations by text and force your guests to reply to attend so you can also have an “actively confirmed” headcount. That's literally how I use @markit_ai__ There are still tons of awesome events this SF tech week and stellar hosts doing a great job, it’s just a shame some organizers are chasing clout/vanity and hate to see peoples time wasted who traveled a long way to be here

Finally met my west coast counterpart @thechangj in person at @DoorDash @brexHQ FounderFuel today. @Techweek_ always brings out the best people including the 2 best Jonathan Changs

Okay I’m gonna throw a founder house party in Boston when I'm back from SF. Who’s in? Went to one here and was a vibe (shoutout @yin_amy). Founder stuff is literally on a tue at 6pm in Boston. And we wonder why all our best student founders leave to SF (cough cough @noahrshinn)
