I think Joe Davis has done a very nice job all postseason but the "saying a guy 'is saying' or 'has gotta be saying' something when he's not saying it" bit just drives me bonkers

Smoltz watching the Brewers strike out a bunch and hit a ton of homers for four games in the NLCS and yet continuing to talk about them shortening up their swings is amazing feel for the game

oh hell yeah it's time for my first of a million offseason reminders that "willing to listen" does not portend anything, and every front office should be willing to listen on virtually every player

The odds that Lopez just had the best season he's ever going to have are pretty high, and not that xStats are the be all end all but he outperformed all of those. If some team is willing to blow your doors off, why not listen?

Great quote that can mean anything. Low-$ teams could want to spend before there's either a floor OR a competitive integrity tax because either way they need to spend. High-$ teams may want to spend more before there's a cap OR before other teams have to spend to a floor/CIT
Could be telling quote from Scott Boras when it comes to timing on certain free agents: "For many teams, I can make an argument it’s clearly best for them to sign players currently, before the (new) CBA, than it is after ..."

I don't at all think this is Boras saying "there is going to be a cap and floor" because it would be kinda wild for a player agent to insinuate that. I do think it's him saying "there is so much uncertainty that the more you can lock in before the lockout, the better"

(And as an agent, of course you want to urge action to get your guys signed)
