I started working on a Linux video editor for myself as I had enough of how unintuitive the ones I tried are and to take advantage of modern hardware so everything is GPU-accelerated which I also plan to open source when it's ready
I hate when I open some software and have to make a decision before I can do anything so I skip it for the personal Linux video editor I'm working on using Rust and GPUI and make it easy to change it later
Thanks @stolinski for talking about Rust and GPUI since it inspired me to make a personal video editor and it's already better than any Linux video editor I used since it's GPU-accelerated and intuitive
I know it's a meme but I vibe coded an editor where I use Animotion to make videos using code and sync the audio so I don't need other software to make the final video anymore and I can add any feature I want 😄
I switched from Shiki to Twinkleplop in Animotion
• Bundle: 143 KB → 44 KB
• Package size: 11 MB → 180 KB
• Highlight speed: 11x faster (3.66 ms → 0.33 ms)
• Deleted ~100 lines of async loading code
If you love the exploration of user interfaces I highly recommend watching this talk by Scott Jenson: “Are we really going to use the same Desktop UX forever?”

I think about this a lot because I'm baffled when I try one of these AI video editors for example and it's like they never used a video editor before
