75% of patients who reported cancer-related cognitive impairment did NOT seek help.
Why:
😑 Reluctance
😑 Lack of awareness of the condition as related to cancer or as meaningful or that something could actually be done
😑 Lack of validation by a health care provider
😑 Perceived as insignificant
The amazing thing is, the growing evidence-base for cognitive behavioral therapies in this space is remarkable. We need to better leverage #cancerrehab CBT interventions.

Is it just me or is mRS at 90 days an antiquated functional outcome for #acute stroke trials w/o accounting for other factors such as type & intensity of rehabilitation, discharge location, family/care partner support, etc. So much occurs between life saving measures & 90 days!

Study (N=163) finds women professors did 75% of internal service work; men 25%. Women viewed it as compliance or an investment; men dodged with evasiveness or used barter. Yet men did 50% of external service work. @mikmeyer

NEEDED: More integration of rehabilitation into the cancer care plan.
Over 1/4 of US cancer survivors reported mobility disability, and ~10% reported self-care disability. Patterns varying across cancer types & treatment status.
Suggest disability prevention is needed in cancer care.
Have you heard about #rehabilitation? #prehabilitation ?
Not after treatment, not as an aside, but as part of the cancer care plan!
More people are surviving cancer, we cannot afford to have nearly 1/3 of those people live the rest of their lives with disability.
Treating the disease is not enough. Rehabilitation IS cancer care.

Sometimes as leaders we feel we have to know all the answers when people in our teams come to us with questions. If we don't know, we might look weak. @ideo says we should flip that thinking. We should see our leadership role as helping others to focus on the right questions, to frame the challenges they face. IDEO proposes the "Goldilocks principle" for question framing:
- not so high level that it is abstract & impractical
- not so low level that nothing will improve:
