If you think it's not important to fix conditions and pay for consultants then read just one of the messages I got today. Where are the Drs? They've gone to places with better work life balance and better pay. Without Drs there's no NHS.

Funny how the “if you tax the rich they’ll leave” don’t believe that if you don’t pay the doctors well they’ll leave I’d rather pay our medical professionals well than let billionaires off the hook on taxes

Ben Morrin appears to be a bit dense. Or BMA is lying. No point being at a table alone.
Consultants don’t want to strike, but after 18 months without formal negotiations, they cannot wait any longer. These strikes are planned to take place on 25 and 26 November, with Christmas Day levels of cover provided. There is still time for the Government to make progress.

Provider cartels, servile to political ghouls, and genuinely awful managers (sadly too often lapsed clinicians) are ruinous for UK healthcare: here’s an excellent example.
Here’s a theatre-based example: NHS Trusts have cut local medical/A4C rates for extra surgical (WLIs) to such derisory levels, that no one will do them Whilst simultaneously paying outsourcing companies to do exactly the same work for many many £thousands more Why?

Words delivered without a hint of recognition of the irony.
NHS England's chief executive accuses Treasury officials of "nonsense" and "pointless process" in pushing NHS for savings. Jim Mackey said "It’s like they’ve got memories that… just get erased every 40 minutes.” hsj.co.uk/policy-and-regulat…

It’s 2026 and AI is transforming tech… meanwhile the NHS is stuck in the dark ages. What an absolute farce NHS IT is. @andyburnham this is an easy win. Make nhs.net Great Again. (Then can we please have a unified single patient care record please?)
Latest NHS mail changes are about to cause chaos to rotational members of staff. Information governance strikes again. There needs to be urgent reform.

This is what happens when you let servile accountants and nebulous working-from-types home run a health service unchecked.

We don’t make our own toothpaste. So why are we still “making” so many injectable medicines at the point of care? New editorial on why anaesthesia should lead the move to ready-to-administer medicines. associationofanaesthetists-p… #prefilledsyringes #anaesthesia @Anaes_Journal 1/10

Prefilled syringes are not a magic fix. They still need good storage, segregation, selection checks, training and evaluation. This is a system intervention. associationofanaesthetists-p… #prefilledsyringes #anaesthesia @Anaes_Journal 9/10

The better question may not be whether we can afford ready-to-administer medicines. It is whether patients can afford us continuing to hand-make them at the point of care. associationofanaesthetists-p… #prefilledsyringes #anaesthesia @Anaes_Journal 10/10

Extrapolating from surgeries done, there are NO indications for surgical rib fixation. (Minimal exaggeration for point-making)

Do not drink your brew and read this tweet.
I’ve just discovered our new favourite Devon cove is a well known dogging site 😳

The Ockenden Nottingham report is not only a maternity report. It is also a major patient safety report for anaesthesia. 🧵👇 Safe maternity care needs anaesthetists who are visible, available, senior and properly resourced. ockendenmaternityreview.org.… #anaesthesia 1/10

The report explicitly says long-term increases in anaesthetic training numbers and consultant posts will be required to meet growing demand. That is an important national message. Safer maternity care will require more anaesthetists. ockendenmaternityreview.org.… #anaesthesia 9/10

The lesson for anaesthesia is clear: Good people working harder is not a safety strategy. Safe maternity care needs planned capacity, senior presence, proper support staff and shared governance. Workforce planning is patient safety. ockendenmaternityreview.org.… #anaesthesia 10/10
