NASA has released the first full image of Earth in 54 years.
The photo was taken from the Orion spacecraft, which is currently traveling to the Moon.
The last time Earth was photographed in its entirety from deep space was in 1972 during the Apollo 17 mission. Since then, such images have been created by stitching together multiple shots taken from Earth’s orbit.

Many people have been recognizing that AGI won't be coming from mere scaling of current tech, and that generative AI has been severely overhyped. This is all true. But those people often conclude, "therefore AI is not going to be transformative -- this is a nothingburger". Absolutely not.
AI (both current and near-future tech) *will* transform nearly every industry, and we're still only in the very first steps of that process. Generative AI may be a bubble, but AI is going to be bigger in the long run than what almost all observers currently anticipate.

Slowing down AI innovation with regulation is a very bad idea and will only have negative consequences
- Traditionally, regulation helps large monopolies and big companies and cripples start-ups
- US-centric regulation will lead to the US falling behind China in the all important AI space
- Open-source AI is flourishing and is helping us make big strides in AI. We risk killing this fledgling eco-system with regulation
- The internet has been a huge success and has transformed our lifestyles dramatically, largely because it has been regulation free
- OTOH, highly regulated industries like healthcare and finance are excruciatingly slow moving, full of red tape and rife with corruption.
Finally, it's no coincidence that the biggest proponents of regulation are makers of closed proprietary LLMs who are arguing for regulation to create a moat and protect their multi-billion dollar investments
An open AI ecosystem promotes transparency, better understanding of technology and free market dynamics that accelerates innovation.

This is a game changer. You can use ChatGPT to transform equations to python functions.
Wish I had this 5 years ago.

When I think of existential risks to large parts of humanity:
* The next pandemic
* Climate change→massive depopulation
* Another asteroid
AI will be a key part of our solution. So if you want humanity to survive & thrive the next 1000 years, lets make AI go faster, not slower.
This should be a great read!

Just wow, @away. I spend a small fortune on several pieces of your luggage, including a monogrammed bag for my wife. The zipper eats itself after only a few uses and you tell my wife you can't help her because the zipper has a 1-year warranty?
Fool me once, but never again.
