The most life-saving thing you can do for a family member you love is to NEVER leave their bedside if they’re ever admitted to hospital. Every hour you’re allowed to be there— watch over everything like you are doing the biggest test of your life. Take turns with other family members if you need to. Every medicine, every health professional who walks in the room, any symptom your loved one experiences. Be present. Speak up. Ask questions. Don’t give a ___ if any unprofessional staff member tries to make you feel like you shouldn’t be there or dismisses you. The health of your loved one is too important. Be perfectly polite and cordial but make it clear that you demand the highest standards and attentiveness. As a doctor who has worked in dozens of hospitals in the USA and Europe— trust me when I tell you this could save your loved one’s life one day. Be a supportive ROCK advocate at the bedside.

"He's a genius," Maya told me later, adjusting her blazer. "People will always try to dim a bright kid's light so they feel taller. Our job is just to buy them bigger lightbulbs."

I'm grateful to women who hyphenate their last names, because you immediately know that they're going to be a pain in the ass.

The quicker you act on realizing you have to attack life, not let it happen to you, the quicker you enjoy this journey versus wasting it on stress, anxiety, and worry

Having a baby will make you realize how insanely hilarious it is when childless people give out parenting advice.

You’re standing on a planet with molten lava at its core. Trees are turning sunlight into air you can breathe. Your heart is beating without you asking it to. There’s a moon in the sky and bugs that glow. This whole thing is absurdly beautiful. Don’t forget to notice it.

Time spent with children spikes for a few years in your thirties and early forties before falling off a cliff. It’s a devastatingly short window. Blink and you’ll miss it. Slow down. Play Monopoly. Read them books on repeat. The time you spend with your children is never wasted.

The planet can spell your name – literally. 🔤🌍 This Earth Day, see your name written in landscapes captured by Landsat: go.nasa.gov/4ak4Cdu

Watched my wife give birth. We talk a lot about how hard birth is in movies, tv shows, etc. but it’s often a punchline of a joke. We sell it WELL short. My god. Women are beast mode

Eldest daughters deserve a peaceful adult life
Did you know? Psychologists said that the most depressed person in the family member is not the father nor the mother. It's the eldest daughter.
