When girls are telling each other creative ways of getting monied men hizo zote za kuenda sijui Lee Funeral Home sijui Nairobi hospital sijui golf clubs, sijawahi ona read the room being said. People laugh, na wakufuata hufuata.
Past 8 days this has happened to me twice with the latest being on Saturday l. Craziest bit was that for both trips I had actually tipped the drivers
Hey @uber_kenya
You have a rogue driver somewhere. Wassup? I can’t even verify the ride info.

Look at this!!!
Can a cross dressing man who paid 60k to join a golf club, went to Alliance and graduated from Strathmore and has a a job whose net salary is 300k go to the male washrooms of a church during a masterclass on how to be a good wife?
Relative Privation - the masterclass is wrong because society faces more pressing problems
False Dilemma - We must choose between successful marriages and other societal issues
Whataboutism - redirects away from the merits of the masterclass by introducing other problems

This realization changed my perception on "brain drain".
When Kenya's brightest students leave for jobs abroad, it's not brain drain: the country wasn't using their brain in the first place.

Normal Programmers: Hey, so I created this tiny website/api to help you do x
@davidamunga_ : Hey so I created this detailed 3D game that can run on Casio watch at 80 frames per second and extensible through a Rust API.

Kwani Uber ziko Go-slow? Getting a ride today has been such a Herculean task and when you do it becomes a sisyphean task getting a driver to get to your location
These days I open Netflix app, scroll for 10 minutes, close it.
Open Amazon Prime and in 2 minutes the MGM Lion is roaring because there's something to watch.
Same experience for everyone in my house
Was probably at 0.02 but @ronnieonly pushed it
Kenya is at 0.05 online food orders per person per year. South Korea is at 20. That chart, from Caroline Mutuku's keynote at Glovo Kenya's Future of Commerce Summit yesterday is quite possibly the most useful thing I have seen on Kenyan digital commerce this year.
A few more numbers from the keynote:
1/ GMV growing about 40% a year against order growth of 33%. The basket is getting bigger.
2/ Utawala up 135% year on year. Kikuyu and Kinoo up about 100%. Ruiru and Juja up about 85%. The growth is no longer just about Westlands.
3/ Fastest-growing searches, January 2026 to September 2026: baby products 48%, beauty 45%, small electronics 42%, large electronics 40%. Kenyans are even searching for fridges on a delivery app (Seriously, do Kenyans have peculiar habits as someone once remarked, or not?).
4/ Orders that start in ChatGPT or Claude convert at 41% against 33% in the app.
5/ 22% of urban Kenyans have downloaded Glovo. 7% have ordered. 6,000 vendors, 3,000+ riders, 600 jobs heading to 1,200 by end of 2027.
6/ Finally, for 2027: partner-funded new-customer incentives, and one new city by mid-year with two more to follow.
Read my blog post that captures all the details from the keynote:
