DC is now down to 20 starred restaurants (including the Inn at Little Washington). A year ago it had 26.
Just noticed that Michelin finally removed Gravitas from its list of starred DC restaurants. Gravitas closed early this year but was still listed as having a star as of last month. guide.michelin.com/us/en/dis…

What backslash Jessica? 🧐😇So we are banning all meats? If Duck goes all goes next? …I’ve been through this in California…..just lets concentrate on things that matter…..cars with children are being shot by ICE, immigrants working in farms and restaurants being deported many with green cards and even citizens…so many other issues! Yes let’s bring the ducks now….one more issue for restaurants to handle!😅🕊️
Heavy hitter getting into the foie gras ban ballot initiative debate. I would guess a majority of chefs in DC are against a ban, but they don’t want to say so publicly for fear of backlash.

This past Valentine’s Day, 71-year-old Brad Reese, proud grandson of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups inventor H. B. Reese, posted a scathing open letter to the manager of corporate brand and editorial at Hershey, accusing the company of unforgivably altering many Reese’s products by replacing real chocolate with compound chocolate — basically using vegetable oils instead of cocoa butter to lower costs and replacing real peanut butter with “peanut-butter-style crèmes.” “And Reese wasn’t alone in feeling like everything was getting worse,” writes Rachel Handler. “Everyone in my life I spoke to agreed that something was amiss, that Reese’s — and commercial chocolate in general — didn’t taste the way it used to.” Handler would spend the next several months tumbling down a chocolate vortex, encountering dozens of eccentric characters, all disagreeing about the fundamental question of what chocolate even is and who it should be for. “I learned that — not to sound like a LinkedIn guy — what’s going on with chocolate is a parable for the modern world. That at this particularly bleak end stage of capitalism, everything we once treasured has or will lose its essential essence and MrBeast will always be involved somehow.” For our cover story, Handler takes a deep dive into the molten belly of the chocolate world. D Magazine investigation claims Michelin used AI to write its Dallas guide. Interestingly, I had similar suspicions about DC's guide in 2023 and even had some AI experts from Georgetown evaluate the text, but it was inconclusive and Michelin denied it. dmagazine.com/food-drink/202…
