Truth
I think every surgeon will say that doing surgery is the easiest, least draining part of their job. It’s the prior auths, hospital admin, consults, inboxes, computer clicks, pointless bureaucratic nonsense that burns us out.

Wow - what a strong, brave, intelligent opinion. Thank you @KemiBadenoch
You may not agree with me, but you will always know where you stand with me. Today in Billericay, a heckler tried to shout me down as I spoke about the normalisation of hatred towards Jews. I did not back down, because it needs to be said. British Jews are being targeted and too many people are pretending this is the same experience of other minorities. This lady implied Muslims are being similarly targeted. This is simply not true. Let's be honest about what is happening. Certain groups (in particular but not solely Islamic Extremists) are creating a climate of fear and intimidation that is normalising Jew hatred. I will never stand for that. Governments have spent too long hand-wringing, making excuses and hoping it would go away. It is time to call this what it is: a national emergency in our attitude, our urgency and our response. I will always engage with people who disagree with me. That is politics. But there is a difference between argument and intimidation. Shouting does not make a bad case good. It's done to silence others. And it certainly does not change the truth. The truth is that British Jews have been made to feel less safe in their own country. Our country. They are being singled out, threatened and harassed in ways that should shame everyone in public life. If we do not stand up now and stop this rise in antisemitism, then why bother saying "Never Again" at Holocaust Memorial Day? Because this is how it starts. I am not prepared to play along with the pretence that this is normal, or manageable, or just another example of tension between groups. It really is not. It is targeted hatred and it is getting worse. So my message is simple. Not here. Not in Britain. And not on our watch. We need to stop the hand-wringing and start doing the right thing. That means standing with British Jews openly, unapologetically and without fear.

100% agree. Seen terrible injuries with these . And helmet - NO BRAINER MANDATORY
As an orthopedic surgeon, father and grandfather I haven’t said anything about these E-Bikes and E-Scooters but I have seen enough. They are extremely dangerous and children shouldn’t be riding these, especially without helmets. You should have to have drivers license to operate one. I see children riding these, going too fast, going right through stop signs and into traffic. I see 7yo riding these things to/home from school. I have seen horrific injuries and heard of fatalities. We have to protect children even if their parents think this ok. I’m not a “rules guy” usually and think best to leave people alone to make their own choices, but these are children. I’m sure there is some lobbying group for these that will block any ban on kids of operating these but we must do something. Thoughts? @DrDiGiorgio

I am so blessed to be doing what I do, and to work at Mount Sinai. But there are definitely frustrations these days - this article polls a few surgeons who weigh in on the biggest ones
At @MountSinaiNeuro, our physicians are committed to top care despite challenges. In a recent @BeckersHR ASC Review article, spine #neurosurgeon @jsteinbergerMD discusses how obstacles, like insurance roadblocks, impact physicians & patient care. 🔗: bit.ly/43EWVNe

I love a good minimally invasive TLIF. Do many.  But open TLIF, when need better sagittal correction, big mismatch, indirect not enough and need direct visualization of beautifully decompressed nerves bilaterally….is an absolute home run surgery .  😃 patient .

This week has been darker than any I can remember. My heart is shattered.
BREAKING: Spokesman of the Israeli Army Daniel Hagari just announced that the forensic examination of the bodies of 9-month-old Kfir Bibas and his 4-year-old brother Ariel were beaten to death by Hamas. They weren’t killed in an airstrike, they were brutally murdered

#ALIF is a mega powerful tool for reduction of #spondylolisthesis and is a surgery I am increasingly doing for appropriately indicated patients. Keys: 1. A great vascular surgeon 2. Don’t overdo it, size appropriately @MountSinaiNeuro Patient permission granted

This is happening at @Columbia right now. A pro-Hamas protestor calling on the Al-Qasam brigade (the military wing of Hamas) to kill Jewish students. If you are not enraged by this, you can GO FUCK YOURSELF.

Disturbing times in NYC.
In response to “horrific” scenes of antisemitic harassment at and around campus, the Orthodox Rabbi at Columbia/Barnard sent a WhatsApp message to more than 290+ Jewish students this morning recommending that they go home until it’s safe again for them on campus:

100% agree with this.
You might have to wait when you come to my office…. I spend time with my patients I never cut them off. I let them finish and make sure I answer all of there questions… I can’t predict who will ask what or how long it will take… I won’t rush a patient when behind. I always apologize for the delay. And make sure my next patient gets the same attention as my last. If someone can’t wait or has to leave. I call them that evening and ensure that I address there concerns. My office is transparent about it and we some people who complain but the vast majority appreciate the attention. As a private practice, that personal touch and being present for the patient I am with has been critical to the growth and viability of my practice. My style of practice may not be for you…

This is something that should be adopted in the US immediately … zero downside, all upside, protect the scrub techs, OR nurses, SPD, and reps, among others…
in my hospital in Switzerland the maximum amount of weight for OR trays plus instruments is 10kg / 22 lb to protect the OR staff. The huge U.S. trays that came with the system are far too big and the weight is 😳. I think a weight limit just makes absolute sense… it’s all a fairness commitment

I’m a fan of cervical disc replacements (arthroplasty), great operation FOR THE RIGHT PATIENT. Not every patient is a candidate for disc replacements - decision is nuanced and multifactorial - but discuss it with your spine surgeon.
If you’re experiencing severe neck/back pain, I recommend looking into a disc replacement. If you do, err on the side of a disc with limited movement. A simple hinge is more likely to be effective than a high mobility artificial disc that can translate, as well as rotate.
