As a veteran, I find the timing of Islamophobia Awareness Month during our Remembrance period deeply offensive.
November is when Britain pauses to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedoms. Yet, against that backdrop, we are being asked to devote an entire month to a campaign that risks framing legitimate concerns about Islamist extremism as prejudice.
This is no coincidence. The timing and messaging deserve serious scrutiny. It risks obscuring a very real and uncomfortable history: terrorist attacks carried out in the name of Islam, including by British-born extremists who have murdered and scarred innocent people on our own streets.
We should be able to remember our fallen, acknowledge the threat of Islamist terrorism and challenge genuine prejudice without one being used to silence discussion of the other.
I find the timing distasteful, the messaging deeply questionable and the implications for national security impossible to ignore.
I will not be posting an “Awareness” post on Sunday. Out of respect for our fallen, Remembrance Sunday deserves our undivided attention.

Officers are appealing for public help to find a 16-year-old boy who has been reported missing.
Thomas Symonds-Evans was reported missing on Tuesday 27 October after last being seen in the Wigston area.
From enquiries, it is understood Thomas may have travelled to the Bournemouth area and to the Chelmsford/London area.
Enquiries have been ongoing to locate Thomas and we are now appealing to the public for help and information.
Thomas is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall with curly hair and braces.

Daniel is aged 14 and was reported missing last night. He was last seen in the Woodhouse area.

19-year-old Somali Idris Ahmed stabbed a 17-year-old Welsh teen at a packed Barry Island beach — victim loses his leg after multiple surgeries...
The teenager collapsed onto the sand, bleeding heavily and turning pale, telling those around him: "I am going, I feel myself going."
Idris Ahmed initially denied it, forcing the victim to relive the trauma in court. He changed to guilty on GBH with intent + knife possession.
The judge remanded him for sentencing on 27 November, with YOI on the table because of his age.
Unprovoked attack, life-changing injury, and he will be sent to a Young Offender Institution (YOI) instead of prison and will probably be out in a couple of years...

Both are missing from Leeds and suspected to be together.
They were reported missing yesterday (Thursday 5 November), and enquiries have been ongoing to locate them since.
Esme is 12 years old, and described as white, approximately 5ft 3ins, of a slim build with brown eyes and mousey brown long wavy hair with slight pink through it. She is known to wear vest tops, jogging bottoms and a beige basketball type jacket.
Annabel is 15 years old, she is described as white, 5ft 8ins, of a slim build with long blonde hair. She has pierced ears and is believed to be wearing grey jogging bottoms, adidas campus shoes and a reversible jacket which could be black or navy.
