When I announced my candidacy for FIDE President, I spoke about the need to take our organization to a new level. Today, we are making one of the first important steps in that direction. We are introducing a new organizational structure for FIDE. Clearer responsibilities, more efficient day-to-day management and a stronger focus on long-term strategy - these are our key priorities. • The General Assembly remains FIDE’s supreme governing body of FIDE. • The FIDE Council will play a stronger role in setting strategic priorities and overseeing their implementation. • A new Governance Secretariat will support the governing bodies and commissions. • The President’s Office will focus on strategic priorities and major international projects. • The Advisory Board will bring additional international expertise into FIDE. • The administration under the Secretary General will oversee a clearer division of responsibilities between departments. And, importantly, we are building the team that will deliver these changes. New professionals are joining FIDE, bringing fresh ideas and experience, while colleagues who already know the organization and the chess world will continue to play an important role. I like the idea of a “New FIDE.” For me, it means a stronger institution, a more professional organization and a team working together toward one shared strategy.
