A birthday appreciation post for @FoxyPenguinApe 🦊🐧🦧 The first time I met Foxy, she was shouting my name across a venue “Who is swiftie?! swiftie is here?!” It was July 2025, Malaysia Blockchain Week, at the Pengu Tower launch. My first IRL @pudgypenguins side event. I was just a holder who showed up because I loved these little penguins and wanted to meet the people behind the pfps I tweeted about the launch and the post started getting more attention than I expected. Somehow, I posted before the official announcement haha Foxy noticed. And in the middle of everything she had going on that day, she wanted to find me and say Hi It sounds like such a small thing, but I still remember how that felt. I was new. I didn’t know many people. Having her call out my name and welcome me like that made it a lot easier to keep showing up And I did. For the rest of that week, I went to almost ever @pudgymalaysia side event I could. If I remember correctly, the Pudgy Malaysia and @PenguAsia teams pulled off 11 events in 5 days I mostly remember how much fun we had. The conversations, the laughter, meeting people I’d only known through their pfps. At the time, I had very little idea how much work was happening around us to make those days feel that way I started to understand at Token2049 Singapore 2025. I volunteered to help the Pengu Asia team with their side events and it was my first time seeing Foxy work from the other side I’d see her replying to messages at 4am, then back in the Asia group chats the next morning 8am. Between working across time zones and getting things ready for everyone, I genuinely wondered when she found time to rest But what stayed with me was how much she cared about Asian holders having something to be part of here. A place to meet, make friends and feel proud of the little penguin we’d all chosen Over time, I went from being the holder turning up at events to volunteering, then leaving my Web2 job and joining the team. Foxy was a big part of why I felt ready to take that step. I’d seen the work up close, and I wanted to help Then came Catlumpurr 2026, my first official event as part of the Pengu Asia team She personally made sure every guest arrival was handled. She triple-checked the itineraries. The personalised gifts, custom GIFs, stickers and little surprise stops we’d planned for guests. From A to Z, she had her hands on all of it Working alongside her, I started noticing how much thought went into things a guest might never know someone had spent hours arranging. She wanted people to enjoy their time here and go home with good memories At every gathering, she’d circle the room, talking to everyone and making sure no one was standing alone. She’d skip her own meals to spend more time with the community. There was always another person to catch up with, someone to check on, something she wanted to make sure was okay And something I don’t think many people saw: she quietly paid for so much out of her own pocket. Meals she treated guests to, dinners she covered, meals she picked up for the team. Most of those expenses never got reimbursed. She just covered them and carried on I appreciated those things then, even if I probably didn’t say it enough By the final day of Catlumpurr, her voice was almost completely gone She was croaking through conversations, still smiling and trying to speak to everyone. Even then, she was asking whether everyone else was okay I remember thinking, Cheryl, please drink some water, eat something, take your medicine and rest 😭 That’s the part I still remember so clearly. We were reaching the end of the event, she could barely speak, and she was still making her rounds to check on people That’s the Foxy I’ve gotten to know through all of this. Someone who remembers that an event people travel to is also their time, their money and sometimes their first chance to meet this community in person Maybe I notice it so much because I was that person once. The new holder walking into Pengu Tower, not knowing what to expect So Cheryl, Thank you for finding me in that room Thank you for the chance to work alongside you and for all the little things you’ve done for us that I haven’t always stopped to thank you for When I think about my time in Pudgy, so many of my favourite memories have you somewhere in them. I’m grateful we got to meet and even more grateful that we got to become friends Happy birthday, @FoxyPenguinApe Wishing you good health, more sleep, meals you actually get to finish and lots of happy moments with the people you love You’ve helped so many of us feel welcome here.
