New research has found that mosquitoes collected from lower latitudes and warmer climates were more tolerant of high temperatures than those collected from higher latitudes and colder climates. 🥶 🦟

If you’re around for the poster session at #ESA2023 tomorrow (Thurs) make sure to swing by poster 232 to learn about the effects of genetic diversity on invasion success, presented by Dylan Loth.
To those at #ESA2023 interested in parasites, climate, coevolution, or local adaptation come to my talk tomorrow (Thurs) at 10:30am in D137

I’m defending my PhD May 17th! It will be ~1 hour talk on mosquito-borne disease & climate warming and anyone is welcome to attend (either in person or via zoom)!
Read about my “parallel replay” experiment in replicated populations of Daphnia in a natural pond. Spoiler: we see similar genotype frequency changes across them all! Just published: dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3.9896
PhDone! Thanks to @seb_schreiber and Tom Schoener for being amazing advisors. My finishing talk is online here: youtube.com/watch?v=qOcjJgn5…
Congratulations to Dr. @k_lyberger on submitting her completed thesis!! An amazing body of work using field & lab experiments, mathematical modeling, and advanced statistical methods to examine dynamics at the interface of ecology and evolution. I learnt so much from Kelsey!
My first chapter on evolution in response to extreme events is out in AmNat journals.uchicago.edu/doi/ab…
My second chapter on life history evolution in response to size selection and density dependent selection is out in Ecology Letters onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
Check out my #ESA2021 talk. We tested a couple classic ecological hypotheses about invasion using Daphnia and other zooplankton cdmcd.co/WkzwKn

This morning, the @CosmosUcDavis students in the "mathematical modeling in the life sciences" cluster are giving their group project presentations. So exciting and impressive!
A little late to the automated translation game but all the versions of "Daphnia" it came up with are cracking me up: "apnea, Gothia, Daphne, Dragnea, Daffy in" Oh and another great one: "cycle avoid cocoa pods"
Last night I dreamt about setting up an experiment looking at behavior differences between clones of Daphnia. I was measuring swim speed and vertical migration. Has this been done?
Have you participated in writing a paper with a dozen or more authors? E.g. a working group writing a review. How was it?

Work by @k_lyberger in @Ecology_Letters shows that density-dependent selection & size-selection both have significant but complementary effects on life history evolution(LHE). Need more LHE studies to look at both forms of selection within the same system
