Trump sent his political advisors to the Republika Srpska to provide counsel on voting– and they were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for it. After their trip, the corrupt, pro-Russia candidate and his party won races across the political entity.
It's not right. That's why I'm sending my concerns directly to the President.

Allow me to explain something perhaps basic re: the growing Republika Srpska entity scandal in Washington.
The issue with the Dodik regime’s lobbying in Washington is not the formal act of lobbying itself per se; that’s a legal act for which lawful procedures exist. Although there are questions about whether their full lobbying spend - especially with respect to certain media personalities - has been properly disclosed. And there is also the key question of what specifically the trade off around U.S. sanctions relief for Dodik and his regime in October 2025 involved.
The core issue is (geo)political.
Why should any U.S. person or official work towards better relations with a government that is, in effect, a direct proxy of the Kremlin, that is likewise extremely close to China, that explicitly works to undermine U.S. national security interests in the Western Balkans by seeking to tear up the U.S. brokered Dayton Peace Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina (lobbying towards this end which has actually been deemed unlawful by Bosnia’s own courts!), that has threatened U.S. officials in the country for decades, and that engages in the most grotesque forms of genocide glorification? Those are the actual concerns.
Lobbying, for better or for worse, is a feature of American politics. But not all clients and money is made equal. Lobbying on behalf of extremists and allies of U.S. adversaries is in a category of its own. Hence, this scandal.

Republika Srpska is primarily pro-Russia. Its leadership under Milorad Dodik calls Russia a strategic partner, rejects sanctions on Moscow, meets frequently with Putin, and resists NATO. Bosnian Serb public opinion is overwhelmingly favorable to Russia. It has also lobbied heavily for better ties with the current US administration while insisting those do not replace the Russian relationship.

Milorad #Dodik's aim is to reverse everything that has been achieved in 🇧🇦 since the war ended in 1995.
What is new is not the objective but the method: he presents the weakening of state institutions and secession as a peaceful process, contingent on backing from major powers — seeking patrons in Washington, Moscow and in European capitals where far right he hopes will take power.
Dodik does not hide his objective: the end of 🇧🇦 as a functional state. He should be taken at his word, not dismissed as bluffing.
#Trump's attempt to distance himself from the two advisers who travelled to Banja Luka to support Dodik's party is an encouraging development, but it feels more like damage control than a final blow to the lobbying ecosystem Dodik established in Washington.
The involvement of figures from #Trump's circle is not an isolated case but part of a sustained and well-funded campaign. Since the start of last year, Republika Srpska has allegedly spent nearly USD 9 million on lobbying in Washington: to improve its image, push for the removal of 🇺🇸 sanctions on Dodik, and build support for secession.
The best-known names: former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, and retired general Michael Flynn, Trump's former national security adviser. The contacts reach both family networks and the core of the White House: Donald Trump Jr. visited Dodik's son Igor in Banja Luka in April, and Željka Cvijanović, one of Dodik's closest associates, met Trump's chief of staff Susie Wiles at the White House on 21 September.
The campaign has produced results: 🇺🇸 sanctions on Dodik were lifted in October 2025, and his main adversary, High Representative Christian #Schmidt, left office without an agreement on a successor.
This side of the Atlantic should take all this seriously. The 🇪🇺 should ensure its words change the reality on the ground. At the moment they are not.
In recent weeks two convicted war criminals were buried as heroes — Ratko #Mladić in Belgrade and Biljana #Plavšić in Banja Luka — with state-like honours, public officials present, tributes in the media and crowds in the streets, despite objections from Brussels.
This should weigh heavily next week, when 🇪🇺 heads of state and government meet in Brussels to discuss #enlargement. Dodik says openly what he wants to do; Europe should prepare for it rather than hope the problem disappears on its own. Brussels needs to draw clear red lines, spell out the consequences of crossing them, and — most importantly — present a strategy for 🇧🇦 and its neighbours that politicians and citizens in the region can believe is possible.

The daughter of Donald #Trump's chief of staff, Susie #Wiles, works for a 🇺🇸 lobbying firm that signed a $35,000-a-month contract to represent Republika Srpska, the Financial Times' @ak_mack reports.
The firm says #Katie Wiles visited Republika Srpska under a separate contract and did not lobby 🇺🇸 officials on the entity's behalf. It adds that she travelled there in mid-August for a 🇺🇸 company running a feasibility study in the region, providing communications support but never speaking to any 🇺🇸 government official about Republika Srpska.
In September, Susie Wiles met Željka #Cvijanović, the Serb member of 🇧🇦's tripartite presidency. A White House official told the @FT the request for that meeting came from Alex #Garcia, a partner at #ContinentalStrategy and deputy political director of Trump's 2024 campaign — and that Wiles "did not discuss work matters with her daughters."
The FT concludes the revelations are likely to raise further questions about lobbying ties between Trump's inner circle and Republika Srpska.
