FYI with all of the Lucas Museum discourse this -- THIS -- is what he designed for the Presidio. Yet they called it "problematic" and that he was being "inflexible in his design vision" the reality is that someone didn't like Lucas and used their position of power to block hundreds of jobs and what easily would have been a top attraction for all of those living in and visting san francisco

Sharing a talk about product management and storytelling I gave a couple of weeks ago. Captures a lot of my history and thinking about why some things are changing in product management with AI, but the key, storytelling, is not youtu.be/WT-_33sQUEY?si=R8Tu…

Exclusive: Palantir, Nvidia and Booz Allen Hamilton are restricting Anthropic’s Fable model for sensitive work over concerns about its data-retention policies. Some customers are demanding irrevocable zero-data-retention guarantees before putting proprietary information into the model. Full story: thein.fo/4dekujW

According to PitchBook, @CendanaCapital was ranked second for performance by VC fund of funds. Never heard of Peakview 🫢, but like Avis, we try harder 💪🏼

I think it would be much more valuable if folks on twitter (sorry, X) would post about their gross profit growth instead of ARR...that would be a flex!

Siri AI is going to be great. So many threads I keep seeing like this where one person says “meh I don’t get it” and others reply with awesome examples of what works. reddit.com/r/iOS27/s/4UonWi8… I am using it daily for finding things and taking actions

If you want to start a startup, don't learn "entrepreneurship." Learn how to build things. The hard part of startups is not "entrepreneurship" but product: to know what to build, and to be able to build it.

As we're getting closer and closer to seeing the doors open for the Cryo Deck of the Marathon Ship, please be advised when it does open: surviving will be a challenge for even the most prepared of crews. (Everyone will have something new to learn). But we believe for those of you who are brave enough, it'll be a journey that you'll remember. TL;DR: Cryo Deck is a Pinnacle Challenge in more ways than one.

Played Marathon for 9 hours last night. Has exponentially more depth than other extraction shooters I've been playing. From player classes, to faction missions/ skill trees/ stores, weapon customizations/ enhancements, runner enhancements, much stronger AI enemies. Not to mention ranked. It feels like a strong mixture of several titles that creates a different experience when put together. Extremely solid game with a very bright future, especially with speed of updates we have seen from the team. The negativity seems completely misplaced imo. It feels like people didn't make it into skill tree unlocks or higher tier armor and gear before they went onto socials to join a hate train 😅

My little agent/slackbot started as a bot that just auto-wrote investor updates for me. Now it also writes stories about fleets. It also crawls all of our meeting notes each day and coverts action-items into linear tickets if they fit our OKRs.

This is fun. Left the autonomous chess match (v0-chess-match.vercel.app/) running overnight between @xai Grok 4 and @openai GPT 5.2. Grok's 𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚔-𝟺-𝚏𝚊𝚜𝚝-𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚘𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 won 19 of the last 20 matches 😅 What models should battle next?

If you’re willing to work insanely hard, there is no better VC starting job than working for my insanely talented partner @lizwessel!
I’m hiring for our team at @FirstRound in SF! 🟢 One of my biggest learnings from my “Founder to VC” transition is how much of a long game early-stage investing is, and I don’t just mean in the sense of returns. We meet a lot of the founders we back First Round Capital months or years before they’re fundraising. Sometimes before they know that they even want to be a founder. To further lean into this, I’m hiring a new Investor to join our team and work side by side with me. The entire job in one sentence: Meet and help brilliant technical builders before they start companies, and become the person they call when they do. But here’s a few more lines on what’s likely true about you if you’re the right fit: - You’re based in SF. - You may have ~1-3 years of total working experience - You’re a local, not a tourist. You’re already a part of these builder communities. You’re at ease in a wide range of environments, whether it’s curating a dinner with ML Engineers, hosting a developer meetup, swinging by a hacker house, or dropping in on a college robotics lab. - That probably means that you’re technical. Maybe you studied CS in undergrad or have been an early engineer at a startup. Maybe you’ve tried building a company yourself (whether it worked or failed doesn’t matter). - You’re obsessively curious about how things work and always looking to sharpen your commercial thinking. You try to study why certain developer tools explode while others stall out. You’re equally at ease digging into both LLM architectures and pricing models. - Your cool if your calendar looks insane, since you somehow make it work. You never drop a ball and you make it a personal rule to never flake last minute on an event. Your notifications are blowing up all day long, but no text or email goes unanswered. - You’re likely an extrovert, and not in the “I can turn it on when needed” sense but in the “I genuinely get energy from being around other people" meaning of the word. - You work insanely hard, and are incredibly detail-oriented. You resonate with the quote that “sometimes magic is just someone spending more time on something than anyone else might reasonably expect.” This is pretty different from most other investor roles, which is why we are likely NOT looking for people who have worked full-time in VC before. You won’t be writing memos or shadowing a more senior investor. You’re more likely to be hosting a dinner than sitting in on a partner meeting (at least at first). But at the same time, there’s real room to run. We don’t offer epic work-life balance and we have outrageously high standards, but we also don’t work with assholes, tolerate internal politics, or have tons of hierarchy. If you crush it, this could be your first step toward a long investing career at First Round. If you want to do amazing work, build a high-quality network in SF, and soak up everything we’ve learned about finding, evaluating, & partnering with incredibly talented founders, apply below 👇

Listen to @samshank! I can remember just about every pitch I've taken that has taught me something new/interesting about distribution.
Don’t start with the product. Start with distribution. I give this advice to entrepreneurs all the time because distribution is the hardest part of building a company. “Build it and they will come” almost never works. And even if you expect distribution to be hard—it’ll be 10× harder. HotelTonight started with a distribution insight. In 2009, we saw that the App Store about to become a massive channel. Billion-dollar companies would be built there, and early movers could earn free distribution before the competition showed up. From that insight, we worked backwards to the product: - A use case uniquely suited to mobile: last-minute hotel booking - Designed to win App Store ranking and retention: beautiful UI, lightning-fast 8-second bookings - Clear, curated choices and amazing deals that fit the mobile moment That combo—a unique distribution edge + a product tailored to it—powered our growth. As you think about your next company, begin with your edge in distribution. Maybe you are an expert at selling into a specific vertical. Maybe you're great at creating authentic content. Maybe you’ve spotted an emerging channel before anyone else. Only then decide what to build—the product that best amplifies your distribution advantage. At speedrun, we’re seeing teams win with GEO, founder-led content, and high-intent launch videos. So I’ll leave you with a prompt: What’s your unique approach to distribution—and what product could you build that maximizes it? If you’re working on this, I’d love to hear from you. Apply to @speedrun at sr [dot] a16z [dot] com.
