Honored to discuss my recent book (Decolonizing African Agriculture: Food Security, Agroecology & the Need for Radical Transformation) w/ Million Belay in this @Afsafrica podcast @ASANewsOnline @theAAG @CAPE_AAG @gfasg_aag @hlpe_cfs @Macalester @kasmosong @agendapub @ColumbiaUP
Episode 7 of The Battle for African Agriculture podcast is live, bringing a new perspective to the decolonisation of African Agriculture series.
In this episode, I host Professor @WilliamGMoseley , a geographer at Macalester College, a former UN food security expert, who has also authored a book, Decolonizing African Agriculture.
Professor Moseley shares insights from over three decades of research and experience, beginning with his service in the Peace Corps in Mali. He explains why African agriculture remains trapped in colonial patterns, from the export of crops and structural adjustment to donor-driven modernization, which sidelines local farming systems.
Moseley highlights agroecology as a powerful alternative that treats farmers as scientists, values indigenous knowledge, and strengthens food sovereignty, pointing out stories from sorghum farmers in Mali and women gardeners in Botswana that display the resilience and innovation already shaping Africa’s agricultural future.
