As a former Marine and police officer, I’ve seen people freeze or fall apart under pressure. I listened to 20-year-old Nathalia Gadelha on Learjet N722BD as it dove at over 20,000 feet per minute in an overspeed. She never stopped transmitting clear, critical information even though she had to know she was going to die. That young co-pilot stayed on the radio to the end. Most people twice her age wouldn’t have.

Misogyny is such a fascinating exercise in illogical reasoning. A male pilot jumps to his death, and a female student pilot successfully lands a plane in an emergency. Nobody questions whether men should be allowed to fly. But let a woman who wasn’t even piloting scream in an emergency, and suddenly she’s evidence that women shouldn’t be pilots. A man’s failure is an individual tragedy. A woman’s fear becomes an indictment of her entire gender.

We learned about his death from the media as we saw him being shot repeatedly in the back after helping a woman from his community. This was not a protest that Alex was at. During the January 6th attack on the nation's Capitol, Daniel Rodriguez drove a stun gun into the neck of Officer Mike Fanone. He was knocked unconscious, had a heart attack and suffered a traumatic brain injury. It ended his career. Rodriguez got over 12 years in prison for his assault on police. On day one, Donald Trump gave him a "full, complete and unconditional pardon" and sent him home. This is far and away the most corrupt White House in American history.
