And this $$ for water comes from the local general fund tax dollars
During the heat wave earlier this month, a Kentucky school district "had pallets of water shipped in" to give students whose bus rides are extra long due to a driver shortage. Another consequence of the legislature refusing to fulling fund public school transportation.

The buses still have to roll. When fuel, insurance, buses, maintenance & salaries rise and state funding is at 70%, local districts use local dollars to help. That means fewer dollars available somewhere else. School finance really is that simple…and that complicated. #CJPECA
The soaring price of diesel is hitting KY school districts hard. Fuel that cost Clark County $19K last year is now $42K. Robertson County is warning about "drastic changes" due to diesel prices. All while the legislature continues to underfund public school transportation.

Fully fund universal preschool and public education
A new CPE report finds that childcare access and affordability remain significant barriers keeping an estimated 375,000 adult Kentuckians who are also parents from enrolling in and completing postsecondary education. cpe.ky.gov/news/stories/chil…

I don’t miss this
NEW: Because of the continued erosion in state funding for Kentucky public schools in the new budget, 1 in 3 school districts are providing *no raise* to teachers this year. The median district provided a raise of just 1%, far below inflation of 3.4%

Few governors worked harder to keep vouchers out of their states than Andy Beshear—and I was down there with him back in 2024. Now, unlike state vouchers, public schools can use the federal tax credit for revenue too. And helping them do so is the right move.

Interesting read here….
Using social media in middle school predicts lower standardized test scores in high school. 10th graders who started social media before 9th grade are ~6 months behind their peers on math & reading. They're more distracted by their phones. No child should have access to social media.

Interesting….
Voters in neighboring state Missouri today considered a proposal to eliminate their individual income tax, which the Ky legislature has also made a goal in law. What did the people say? 1/5

“DISINGENUOUS” Even Republicans are ripping the latest move to strip testing accountability from private school voucher kids because they were UNDERPERFORMING. 🤔 tennessean.com/story/news/po…
