Everyone thinks the congressional leaders are supposed to be inspirational or revolutionary. Theyre meticulous, background engineers, not supposed to be the star of the show. How many speakers can median american name? How many were well liked?
I like AOC. She’s a gifted communicator and political talent, but she hasn’t demonstrated the coalition-building, vote-whipping, or caucus management skills needed to be Speaker. Pelosi was legendary not for her charisma, but because she knew her votes, held her caucus together, and delivered.

Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. He has spent his career criticizing the party, has a thin record of legislative accomplishments, and has never demonstrated an ability to lead its caucus. Senate Majority Leader is an actual job, not a lifetime achievement award for being angry at Democrats.
