Now homes have reportedly been attacked, rival armed groups are fighting in the streets, and Ethiopian federal troops have been deployed to contain the violence. Local reports put the death toll above 17, with around 100 injured, although those figures remain unconfirmed. Meanwhile, hundreds of terrified civilians, many of them women and children, are crossing into Kenya. An argument over who gets to fly a flag has reignited a territorial conflict, and ordinary families are paying for it with their lives.
