Full Reply on the extremely grave findings by Sir Peter Openshaw that Mr Picardo made a “grossly improper attempt to interfere in a legitimate police investigation and operation.” Each Minister now needs to decide whether to back or sack him. If they back him they own this too
Sad news of the loss of Chris White, former GSD candidate in the 2015 election under my predecessor Daniel Feetham & who made a big contribution to Gibraltar tax legislation & fiscal work over many years. Our condolences to his family
When GSLP piecemeal approach shows Minister has no real plan. Rooke: an elderly home that was never supposed to be run by GHA will be full from day one. Joelle Ladislaus giving bed capacity issue & the pressure on Hospital, staff & families some real perspective @JoelleLadislaus

The GSD has questioned the reasons behind the Government's changes to procurement regulations which would allow it to award multi-million pound concessions without tender.

What’s behind the change of procurement rules that allows Govt to award BIG commercial CONCESSIONS to people WITHOUT tender. What does GSLP intend; which contract; who would benefit & why? Govt need to be clear on what they intend. Was Principal Auditor criticism meaningless?
There is a need for reform of police governance which secures independence & oversight. In the meantime people shouldn’t be told a false story by a GSLP Govt desperate to recreate a narrative of the reasons why changes are needed
Police reform too important for it to be hijacked by Mr Picardo mischaracterising reasons for reform or Inquiry findings. Inquiry found he attempted to interfere in criminal investigation, didn’t contain conflicts of interest, acted in a “sinister” way & abused his position. If Inquiry found reasons for reform it’s largely cos of his actions. This latest misrepresentation is just more subtle than when they claimed “vindication” only to then judicially review the same report. Nothing will change because they’ll protect each other

It is extraordinary for the Chief Minister in his GBC interview to present the White Paper on Police Governance Reform as having been necessary because the Police didn’t work well and was not “answerable or transparent” or because a former Commissioner lied to him.

When there’s positive photos to be taken following “operational” decisions by GHA the Minister is there🙄. When there’s criticism to be faced…it’s an “operational” decision nothing to do with me….but what about the underlying political policy questions? Those are for Government

St Bernard’s bed capacity not fit for growing population, says GSD

The Minister for Health told us that bed shortages at St. Bernard’s Hospital were a thing of the past, yet it seems to be one of the issues which comes up frequently, and which has some of the biggest impact on patients and staff alike 👇
Partial GSLP u-turn on over 55s residency rules is welcome but still falls short. This has been a poorly thought through policy with little consultation & it’ll have the effect of increasing our econ dependence on Spain & discouraging inward investment. We’ll reverse bad policy
EU travel problems being encountered by Gibraltar residents were foreseeable & Government should’ve planned for it better, advised people well in advance & put in place solutions. Can unfairly cause real disruption
What did the Rooke building cost? Ystrdy we were given a figure of £90 Million for first time; previously we’ve been told lower figures. What is it? People deserve clear answers
Instead of washing its hands of travel problems Gib residents are encountering Govt should’ve pre-empted those issues & more proactively deal with problems. Many of these were foreseeable post-Treaty travel issues & should’ve been anticipated with solutions in place already
Edgar Lavarello & Erika Pozo join GSD Exec & our campaign for #CHANGE. They bring a wealth of experience in complex financial services work that’ll further strengthen our ability to respond to financial, fiscal & economic challenges. Building a strong team for the future & to deliver the changes people need
If we are elected to Govt I’ll sever links with my law firm as a clear signal of doing things differently. No sabbaticals & no links. How we will govern in a very different way & deal firmly with conflicts of interests which GSLP don’t even recognise exist
Incredible response & work from the Gibraltar Fire & Rescue Service @Official_GFRS & support of AFRS tonight at Bayside. Thank you for your dedication & efforts
You can be in Government or in business with the Government but not both. Part of our reform agenda @GibChronicle

Extract from Tuesday’s press conference. Leader of the Opposition Keith Azopardi lays out 3 commitments for a GSD Chief Minister 👇🏼
The GSD will govern in a different, better way. ✅

“If the lessons of the McGrail Inquiry are truly to be learned then there needs to be a change in the way things have been done. That means clear commitments that start from the Office of the Chief Minister and anyone aspiring to hold that role. Today we set out clear commitments from the GSD that would be binding on a GSD Chief Minister & Ministers.”
