I can’t in good faith continue to add content to this platform. Just short of sixteen years here and it looks like it’s over. I’m very sad it’s ending, but hopeful that new, kinder, more equitable places will arise in its place.

On Mastodon, I now follow 25% the accounts I follow here. Found movetodon.org an interactive tool to follow folks you followed here, much nicer and simpler to use.

Not likely to be deleting, also not likely to be moving on instantly anywhere else. Keeping unused accounts for your handle across social media helps to combat the risk of losing access and having someone else spew shit with your name.

The fundamental issue any Twitter competitor hits is Gail’s Law: “all complex systems that work evolved from simpler systems that worked.” But Twitter refugees will undoubtedly want feature parity from the get-go.

NASA’s Orion capsule has reached the moon, whipping around the far side and buzzing the lunar surface on its way to a record-breaking orbit. It’s the first time a capsule has visited the moon since NASA’s Apollo program 50 years ago. apnews.com/article/astronomy…

This thread is really powerful. I’m so worried about all the people happily spinning up Mastodon instances with no idea of the hellish problems they will likely encounter.

Toyota was a leader in hybrid cars. They totally missed the boat on fully electric cars. And now work to actively muddy the waters and even oppose fully electric car policies. Such a disappointment.
Replying to @JesseJenkins
Hybrids are great. It makes little sense we allow any conventional ICE sales that aren't hybrids now, given the tiny cost premium and superior performance and fuel economy of hybrids. But @toyota, please don't try to play off a new Prius as 'basically the same as an EV bro!'

Without Twitter, Ahmaud Arbery’s killers would’ve never been arrested. George Floyd’s death, even with the video, likely wouldn’t have sparked national outrage. Without twitter, we’re at the mercy of news outlets for reporting & you see how they publish police reports as fact.

I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?" As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.
