Ark-M slips to December
Absolute Batman: Beyond Ark-M #1 is running late. Bleeding Cool reports the one-shot moved from Nov 11 to Dec 2, and Third Eye Comics lists the same date. Lunar shows Dec 16, so the exact release date isn’t settled yet. Stores tend to stock late books lighter, so the Francavilla Cover A and the ratio covers may be harder to find on release day.
A few other DC books moved too: Dark Knights of Steel II #5 to Dec 2, and 100 Bullets: The United States of Anger #5 and Supergirl: Survive #5 to Nov 18.
Clayface
Friday got revised up to $10.4M from 3,458 theaters, up from yesterday’s $9.5M estimate. Previews accounted for $3.5M of that. The weekend should land around $24M to $25M, good for No. 1.
Audience: Premium large formats did close to half the gross, and that’s with zero IMAX screens. Viewers 18 to 34 made up 73% of the crowd.
Scores: Audiences have it at 93% to 94%. Critics are at 75% to 76%.
Money: Box Office Mojo shows $7.8M international and $18.2M worldwide through Friday. The budget was reportedly $40M to $44M, and Franchise Entertainment Research expects it to turn a profit.
Next weekend: Halloween falls on Saturday and nothing new opens wide, so the second-weekend drop should be soft.
Detective #298 (first Matt Hagen Clayface): Two CGC 7.0 copies sold on eBay Oct 24, at $1,416 and $1,599.99. That matches earlier 7.0 comps of $1,281 (Heritage, July), $1,895 (eBay, July) and $1,600 (December 2025), so prices are holding steady. The movement is in low grades. A CGC 3.0 went for $619 on Oct 22, up from $389 on Oct 14. The last raw sale is still $460 (Oct 18).
Detective #40 (first Clayface) is the other book to watch.
Spinoff picks: Fans are already pitching Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow and Poison Ivy follow-ups. If that chatter grows, Batman #181 (first Poison Ivy) and Batman #121 (first Mr. Freeze, as Mr. Zero) could see some sympathy buying.
Midnight tops store sales
Marvel’s Midnight line took the top two spots for October (so far anyway, big week this week). The chart pulls point-of-sale data from 600+ stores, and the top five were Midnight Spider-Man #1, Midnight X-Men #1, ASM #1001, Venom #1 and Doom All-On-One #1. DC’s best was Teen Titans #2 at #7. The Clayface #1 one-shot hit #24 the week before the movie opened. Watch the two Midnight #1s for second printings and ratio-cover demand.
Avengers: Doomsday: Sandra Hüller cameo
Hüller has a secret cameo in the film. Her role hasn’t been disclosed, and Marvel declined to comment. Fans are guessing Doom’s mother or a Latverian witch. Either would put more eyes on Fantastic Four #5 (first Doom). I’d hold off buying until the role is confirmed.
X-Men rumor
An insider report says Cailee Spaeny is in talks for another part after losing Rogue to Inde Navarrette. Fans think it’s Kitty Pryde. If that’s confirmed, the book to hunt for is Uncanny X-Men #129 (which is also the first Hellfire Club appearance as well). The movie doesn’t open until May 5, 2028, so expect a slow build.
Rocketeer rights leave Disney in 2028
Dave Stevens’ estate served a copyright termination that takes effect June 12, 2028. Disney keeps the 1991 film and the existing animated series. Anything new after that date needs a license from the estate. IDW’s comics aren’t affected. The books are Starslayer #2 (1982, first Rocketeer) and then #3, but I don’t expect either to move until a new deal is announced.
