Ruben was born in a private zoo in the mountains of Armenia. When the zoo’s owner died, the facility closed. The other animals found new homes, but nobody came for Ruben, a 10-year-old lion. For the next six years, he lived alone in a concrete cell. His roaring gradually stopped. Those who checked on him heard only an occasional cry. Eventually, Animal Defenders International (ADI) stepped in and arranged to rescue him. Ruben was moved to a bear sanctuary in Armenia for treatment. Years of poor nutrition and almost no exercise had left him weak. His legs trembled when he walked, and veterinarians suspected spinal problems. Because his transport crate was too large for a regular flight, a cargo airline generously flew him to freedom at no cost. On August 23, 2023, after approximately 15 hours in the air, Ruben arrived at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa. For the first time in nearly six years, he could hear and see other lions. And then something beautiful happened. Ruben began roaring again. The sanctuary staff say his roars have been growing louder ever since. His new enclosure includes grassy slopes and a shelter with heated floors. Staff even gave him a bag of catnip, which he happily played with for a long time. Ruben still faces serious challenges. Cataracts cloud his eyes, and sometimes his legs give way beneath him. He will need specialized care for the rest of his life. But now, he is no longer alone. He lives among other lions, enjoys the sunshine, and has finally found a place where he can feel safe. After six years of silence and isolation, Ruben’s roar has returned. And this time, the world is listening.

Why do the orphans each have their own "room" at night? First, the reassuring part: a room of one's own doesn't mean sleeping alone. The orphans bed down on soft hay, surrounded by the comforting rumbles of the others, with a Keeper right beside them throughout the night. Neighbours often rumble to one another through the walls before settling down for sleep. As for the separate rooms themselves, there's one main reason: they allow the Keepers to provide one-to-one care, feed each orphan during the night and closely monitor how much every individual is eating and how they're doing. Each orphan has its own cosy, secure space – close to the herd, but a space of its own. As they grow older and need a little less support at night, they graduate to communal stockades, where they can enjoy the company of one another while also encountering nocturnal wild visitors that wander through.

The decline of my hometown Jo'burg is a warning to London, Paris, New York, Amsterdam and every major city across the West. If you don't act now, your cities will suffer the same fate.
JUST IN: Johannesburg, South Africa, is reportedly on the brink of a "total collapse" of its water system as worsening shortages leave residents without running water for weeks.

We know of 97 calves born in the wild to our ex-orphans. How? Because they chose to bring their newborns home to the people who raised them. Some make the pilgrimage from the wild within hours of giving birth. Others might return to our Reintegration Units a few weeks or months after. Each time, our Keepers are like proud grandparents, over the moon with happiness. Yatta has done it four times. Melia twice. A few have even chosen to give birth amid the Unit - like Murera here, with her newest baby Mwezi. Meet our wildborn family, all alive today because we chose to rescue their orphan mothers: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…

Well said. Why is Redi trying to look white?
Redi Tlhabi, your obsession with dragging apartheid-era violence into every discussion about Zulu identity is intellectually lazy. The Zulu nation is bigger than the IFP, bigger than apartheid and bigger than your political narratives. We will not spend eternity apologising for our identity or seeking permission to embrace our heritage. Stop confusing Zulu consciousness with political manipulation. Our identity is not yours to police.

It’s unfortunate. I think most of the refugees are honest and hard working people. The problem is there are always the fringes of a group who will exploit a situation. What gets me are the people who are in South Africa using it. There are some in the US which will be exposed in time. Don’t stop believing that there are good people who need help. There are. However there are some who will take advantage of you.

A black person in Mzansi will send their kids to whites schools; dine in Whites restaurants where there are no black people on sight; scream go bokkeee; trust private Healthcare owned by Whites; but cannot trust the same Whites to govern SA because Whites are racists.💔🇿🇦😭

Wonderful news: Murera has given birth to a baby girl this morning! Her daughter entered the world bathed in the light of a near-full moon, perfect in every way. We’ve named her Mwezi, which means moon in Swahili. Murera chose to give birth in her stockade, the place that has been her nighttime sanctuary all these years. Her delivery couldn’t have been more seamless – in fact, by the time the Keepers heard the rumbles and rushed to her side, it was all over! Mother and baby are doing very well, while Mwana is already proving to be an excellent and attentive big sister. More to come, but we're filled with joy and wanted to share Mwezi’s first moments with you. (Word is already out amongst the elephants – this morning, every wild-living Umani orphan showed up to meet the newest member of their family!) Congratulations to our extraordinary Murera: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/o…

🇺🇸 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐔𝐒𝐑𝐀𝐏 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝? Not everyone seeking refugee resettlement in the United States is eligible. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has informed some USRAP applicants in South Africa that their cases are ineligible for continued processing, meaning their applications will not move forward. USCIS reviews each application on a case-by-case basis to determine whether applicants meet all requirements under U.S. law. All refugees admitted to the United States must meet the necessary eligibility requirements, including security and medical screenings. 🔗 Learn more about the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP): za.usembassy.gov/u-s-refugee… ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🇺🇸 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐞𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐦 𝐯𝐥𝐮𝐠𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐚𝐧𝐯𝐚𝐚𝐫? About 17,000 South African refugees have been admitted under the program since 2025 (mostly Afrikaners/racial minorities). Three have had their status terminated for fraudulent claims; one more is at risk over an undeclared motorcycle club membership. That equates to a tiny fraction (under 0.02%). Future cases face low odds of removal if all relevant info is fully and honestly disclosed during processing, as terminations occur only for specific violations, not randomly.

Incredible to see the shift in SA politics. People are waking up to the fact that the current state of SA is due to incompetent politicians and the future lies in a non racial SA.
