According to this brother, one must follow the “explicit narrations” of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he tried to back it up with a quote of Shāh Ismā’īl al-Dehlawī.
The response to this is in two ways:
1 Citing al-Dehlawī condemning taqlīd would be like me citing another scholar promoting it. So the brother must provide a good reason as to why we should take the words of Shāh Ismā’īl al-Dehlawī.
2 Imām al-Bukhārī narrated with his chain from ‘Abd-Allāh b. ‘Umar (may Allāh be pleased with them both) who said:
“The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘No one should pray ‘Aṣr except in Banū Qurayẓa.’ Thus, the ‘Aṣr time had reached some of them while on the way, so some of them said, ‘We shall not pray until we reach it (i.e. Banū Qurayẓa)!’ And others said, ‘Rather, we shall pray (on the spot), he (the Prophet) did not intend that (i.e. the apparent).’ This was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he did not scold either of the two.”

The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was “explicit” in this context — “No one should pray ‘Aṣr except in Banū Qurayẓa.”
But yet this did not prevent some of the companions from interpreting this ḥadīth in a way that differs from the ẓāhir [apparent] form.
Ibn Baṭṭāl explained why the other group prayer ‘Aṣr before reaching Banū Qurayẓa and said:
“Because the meaning of it according to them was that this was the case as long as they did not fear that the ‘Aṣr time would run out.”

So my question to brother @AfgSunni and other non-Madhhabists, why didn’t these companions simply take the “explicit” ḥadīth at face value?

A small request to my brothers and sisters: please keep my beloved father in your duʿāʾs. He is the only parent I have left in this world, and he has been struggling with many health issues. Having already experienced the pain of losing a parent, I pray that Allah allows me to have many more years with him.
May Allah grant him complete shifāʾ, ease every pain and hardship he is going through, and bless him with a long, healthy life upon His obedience. I would be sincerely grateful if you could remember him in your duʿāʾs.
And may Allah preserve everyone's parents, grant them good health and long lives upon righteousness, and envelop those who have passed away in His mercy, forgive their shortcomings, and reunite us with them in the highest ranks of Jannah.
