Simon would probably be a gorgeous, well-groomed woman who seems like an absolute catch in every way, but she’d have so little experience with men that the moment one so much as approached her, she’d turn bright red and get all flustered, as if that composed, haughty-
If I were to write a gender-swap story, it’d probably be about Johnny, a country girl who heads to London to play music and catch herself a handsome man. When that doesn’t work out, she ends up wandering into a bar, where the singer is Eddie.
She’s quite the promiscuous type, almost like a prostitute, but she can really sing, and Johnny is completely captivated by her. Eddie, finding Johnny’s scheme to land a man amusing, decides to help her out.
The silhouette of the woman with the concertina in the “The Death of You and Me” music video has this indescribable allure that I’m absolutely obsessed with. And Noel goes without saying. He’s just fucking amazing and sexy as hell.
The expressions I find difficult to draw are Daniel looking unbothered, Johnny smiling, Eddie with downturned eyebrows, and literally every single one of Simon’s faces.
I think Henry looks cooler with his natural dark brown hair, but I guess he doesn’t feel the same way.
LEFTHANDs’ best school subjects:
Eddie: None in particular. Apparently, he liked debating.
John: Seems to have been interested in biology and astronomy.
Simon: Science and maths.
Daniel: History and Geography. He probably would’ve become a teacher if he hadn’t pursued piano.
One of the tricky things about my own creative universe is that LEFTHANDs is the one set in a parallel world, while Strays of Stars, despite being the more overtly sci-fi one, is actually set in a world and era that feel much closer to reality.
