Mind blown. Not only does GitHub copilot "know" R syntax, it also "knows" how to do data analysis. #rstats

Apparently wombats in fire effected areas are not only allowing other animals to take shelter in their deep, fire-resistant burrows but are actively herding fleeing animals into them. We’re seeing more leadership and empathy from these guys than the entire Federal government.

This might be one of the most important ideas in higher education—we need to think about the “value added” from different institutions and use insights from these advanced statistics to help students succeed. nytimes.com/interactive/2019…

Not only do preregistered RCTs in education usually find very small effects, they are also usually uninformative (have wide CIs). Might be because researchers are overly optimistic thanks to biased non-preregged research lit. and thus design them so? eprints.whiterose.ac.uk/1417…

I took a look at the 'Cognitive' & 'Neuroscience' postings on PsychJobWiki. Only 23% of the 141 postings were listed as *cognitive* without mentioning neuro (or some other discipline). What will cognitive science look like in 20 years if these hiring trends continue?

Amazing. Train a network to classify papers (accept/reject). Then run the network on the paper describing the network, and it classifies the paper as a strong reject. This is why we can't have nice paper classifiers. (h/t @hardmaru) arxiv.org/abs/1812.08775

Researchers affected by delayed @arc_gov_au funding decisions, let us know the practical consequences. Would be good to illustrate to @DanTehanWannon how uncertainty & opportunity costs are costing Australia, and why release date should be known in advance. #arcdelay – at Sydney, New South Wales

Remember when they let the British public decide on the name of a boat? And the result was disregarded because they felt the public's decision was too silly to follow through on? That was just the name of a boat.

The war against standardized tests is a war against objectivity, talent, and merit. It gives admissions offices unlimited power to select for ideological conformity rather than learning ability. wsj.com/articles/the-war-on-…
