You know why my generation didn’t burn down churches, rob old people, loot stores, and set fire to cars? Because when we were in school, we had the resources we needed to learn. We had Anti-Riot Trapper Keepers.

The preseason complaining about the @BuffaloBills new stadium was completely absurd. This place is amazing. Loud as hell. Sight lines all over are amazing. Grass. Concourses are huge, old stadium had big traffic jams. Video boards are just enough. Not overwhelming. This place is special.

Having grown up in Buffalo, I can directly attest that Canadians aren’t just our neighbors. They are family. I grew up watching CFTO TV and Hockey Night in Canada. Spent more time in Toronto than in any other city. Learned to sing O Canada right alongside the Star Spangled Banner. We have some damage to repair, but our relationship is deeper and stronger than any presidency.

Why have so many primaries ended up nominating the “craziest son of a b**** in the race”? Well, crazy SOBs tend to be entertaining, and we are in a multi-decade worsening trend of American voters believing that government is there to entertain them. Government is not supposed to be entertaining. Government is there to protect the rights of the people and provide basic services. The fact that zoning laws, safety inspections, arms treaties, trade regulations, and federal contracting standards can be boring does not make them any less consequential.

We’ve removed failure from school. Then we’re shocked when adults fail (and quit) in real life.

I agree! All politics is local. You have more control over your day-to-day in local government.
Those who profess concern about the fate of American democracy should both celebrate local government and step up to serve in it, writes Howard Husock on.wsj.com/4f3NOem
