🎃 Rain on Halloween? All Hallows’ Eve is just 10 days away, and it appears there will be a seasonal chill in the air on the evening of the 31st. I’ve also noticed rain chances lurking in the October 30–November 1 timeframe in several physics-based and AI/machine-learning models. It’s still a ways out, but I’m more confident about seasonal temperatures—in the 50s and 60s, with no extreme heat or cold—than I am about the precipitation forecast. ☂️ Parents: I wouldn’t worry about trying to incorporate rain jackets into your children’s costumes just yet. They’ll probably need light base layers under their costumes, much like what they would typically wear on a late October evening. 🔥Fiery sunrises brough to you by Ginny Fuhrer and Rick Gortney.

🌊 Several locations along the Platte, Missouri, and Grand Rivers are at or are forecast to reach minor to moderate flood stage beginning today and continuing through the weekend. If you live near these rivers or other streams and creeks, please monitor water levels closely. 🌧️ Scattered downpours will continue throughout the day before tapering off overnight. Widespread rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. ⚡ There will likely be enough instability (fuel) for embedded thunderstorms with lightning. There is no risk of severe winds or large hail. 🏠 If you typically get water in your basement during heavy rain events, you’ll likely get water in your basement at some point today or tonight. 🌧️ Nearly 12 inches of rain has fallen over the past three days just northwest of St. Joseph, Missouri, and more rain is falling as of this update. Stream and creek flooding is possible throughout the region, with several river gauges reporting minor to moderate flooding. 🥵 It’s going to feel like peak July heat over the next few days, with high temperatures reaching the lower to mid-90s and heat index values approaching 100 degrees - especially today in communities south of Kansas City. 🏈 Another rainy setup is possible this weekend, which may affect Sunday night’s Chiefs game in Kansas City. Details will become clearer over the next couple of days. 🍂 Fall-like temperatures, along with lower humidity, are on the way next week!

🌊 River and flash flooding is possible beginning this evening and lasting overnight into Wednesday morning. A Flood Watch is in effect from 1 p.m. this afternoon until 1 p.m. tomorrow. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected across the watch area, with locally higher amounts - potentially reaching 3 to 6 inches. These higher totals could cause river and flash flooding in low-lying areas and other flood-prone locations. This includes the Kansas City metro area. ⛈️ Scattered thunderstorms will develop between 4 and 8 p.m. this afternoon near I-35 and northward into northeastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri. While widespread severe thunderstorms are not expected, a couple of storms could produce damaging winds and large hail. The flood risk will increase overnight with additional periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. 🥵 It’ll feel like a hot and humid summer day for some this afternoon, while other communities will experience relatively cooler and more comfortable conditions. In fact, temperatures may vary by more than 20 degrees between northern and central Missouri! Posted Tuesday morning, September 15, 2026.

🍂 When I see temperatures in the 70s, I think fall! 🥵 That said, the Chiefs home opener is going to be hot and very humid. Plan on an afternoon heat index near 100° on Monday. ⛈️ Rain and thunderstorms are likely beginning Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning, with the potential for flash flooding, especially Tuesday night. Additional rounds of downpours through the remainder of the week could bring widespread cumulative rainfall totals of 2 to 5 inches. The highest amounts are most likely across northern Missouri, though the location of the maximum rainfall could change with future updates.
