Give me a break, the polls and models provided the direction in contast to vibes and dumb insiders. And yes it's good that traders were smart enough to trust them. But the better election models were more confident about the outcome than the markets and got there more quickly.
Last night, the power to decide what America sees changed hands. I have spent a ton of time in DC over the last few months. The elites were certain the markets were off. I heard many variants of “no chance markets are right about X” and “I’ve been in politics for a decade. ‘These people’ don’t really know much.” Last night, ‘these people’ beat the elites. Prediction market favorites won 479 of the first 487 races. That’s 98%. The elites live in a bubble. They theorize, write, ideate, and mistake credentials for an understanding of lives they’ve never lived. They don’t see and feel what the everyday man, on the ground, sees and feels. Knowledge is not exclusive to the elites but scattered across millions of people. Someone knows their hometown better than any national pundit. Someone has followed a local race passionately for months. Someone has followed a local race dispassionately for months. Someone notices a shift in their community before it makes the headlines. Someone is shaped by an incident at work. Someone is shaped by what’s getting harder or easier for their families. Each holds a piece of the picture that no expert can see in full. And for the longest time, that knowledge had no way to reach the rest of the world. For generations, election night meant turning on the TV and waiting for a handful of people to tell you what happened. Prediction markets change that. You don't need a title, a large following, or an editor to publish you. All you need is a perspective and the conviction to back it. That changes who holds power over information. Anyone can see the market. Anyone can contribute to it. Anyone can question it. No title gives you the final word. No gatekeepers can filter your view. Sometimes the signal can be wrong. But anyone can challenge the consensus and improve it. And when people consolidate their knowledge together, something remarkable happens: millions of individual perspectives become a signal that we all can learn from. Over the last few months, the people showed up on Kalshi to tell the world what they were going to do. Last night, the megaphone was passed to them.

It's interesting that based on DVOA, at least, the better 49ers teams have been recent, not the 1980s Montana or 1990s Young teams. Here are the best 49ers teams by DVOA through 5 games.

I've gotta circle this for effect
Total EPA x EPA / DB for week 3 Brock Purdy averaged almost an entire point added per drop back across 30 plays

The 49ers this offseason effectively added these pieces to a 13-win team: Mike Evans Deebo Samuel Dre Greenlaw Osa Odighizuwa Fred Warner Nick Bosa Yet all most could talk about was Myles Garrett (even though Rams lost Jared Verse). But reality played out on the field

With all respect, this is bizarre. It’s a ridiculous take. Humans have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years. We aren’t going to die out because a token prediction model gained sentience. Get a grip. All of you.

Show me a team that lost... 🏈High quality QB1 (#2 QBR) for 50% of year 🏈DPOY-level EDGE1 🏈HOF-level LB1 🏈HOF-level TE1 for 50% of year 🏈Top edge-setting DL (and first-round pick) 🏈WR1 🏈WR2 for 50% of year .. and came close to 13 wins. Outside of 2025 49ers, you can't
There’ll never be another 13-win team that was as shorthanded as the 2025 49ers

Actually most sports fans are a hell of a lot more normal than e.g. this dude
It's something I've long drawn attention to. They're the shock troops of normie conformity. Anything that might strike an ESPN host as "weird" or "racist," they will rush to attack it. They were the most eager to declare Black Lives Matter and denounce Trump as a fascist. One silver lining of the explosion in sports betting is that many of these types now just obsess over their parlays and spare little time for politics.

For the 1st time in 25 years not a single square mile of California is dry on the US Drought Monitor. Have to go back to December 2000 to find a similar situation. If you're 25 or younger you've always lived in a world where California has been entering or recovering from drought

Nate Silver's new "QBERT" metric has Brock Purdy at #1 in the NFL at 113.6. For perspective, Silver says a 100 score is "MVP-level" and a 110 score is "among the best QB seasons of all-time". Top-3 1. Purdy: 113.6 2. Drake Maye: 109.3 3. Matthew Stafford: 104.1

The Democratic equivalent of the Tea Party is basically Heather Cox Richardsonism, a kind of purity politics rooted in belief in the historical righteousness of the progressive project paired with a loose grasp if not an outright disdain for the role played by public opinon.

Brock Purdy’s QBR is 72.9 this season which is second best in the NFL (For reference he led the NFL in QBR in 2023 at 73.4). He also ranks: Sack %: 1st (3.06%) Success %: 2nd (55.1%) TD %: 4th (6.3) Some metrics that say he’s playing very well.

Baker Mayfield went 0-7 on throws of 20 or more yards tonight. Just a reminder that a similar performance from Brock Purdy would eliminate him not only from MVP consideration but also from "good QB" consideration. Mayfield is a very good QB but just calling out the draftism
