Know China AI is live today: know-china.org
Ask a question about China in English (or any language) and get an answer grounded in ten million Chinese-language documents, with every claim cited back to the original passage.
What it does, in a thread 🧵
The "China shock" literature counts American losers. Chinese economists have spent a decade counting the American winners, because the size of US firms' stake in China is a standard argument in Chinese trade policy. We asked Know China AI (know-china.org) what that literature says. 🧵
How we found these: the corpus search lists 200 Chinese documents from 2014 onward on US-invested firms in China, US interest groups and the trade conflict, with year filters and BibTeX export. The question above drew on 46 of them.
Yesterday we showed what Chinese economists found about the first "China shock". A follow-up: The tariffs have now run for seven years. Chinese economists have measured them. We asked Know China AI (know-china.org) what the 2023–26 research says. 🧵
How we found these: the corpus search lists 200 Chinese documents from 2023 onward on tariff effects, pass-through, trade diversion and jobs, with year filters and BibTeX export. The question above drew on 39 of them.
What you're looking at: an English question answered from Chinese journals such as 统计研究 (Statistical Research), 中国工业经济 (China Industrial Economics) and 国际金融研究 (Studies of International Finance), each opening to the original with a translation beside it.
