I’ll take Whitefield’s enthusiasm over dead pan emotionless preachers. Harvard’s 1744 faculty in response to George Whitefield’s preaching: “We look upon his going about, in an Itinerant Way, especially as he hath so much of an enthusiastic turn, utterly inconsistent with the Peace and Order, if not the very Being of these Churches of Christ.’”

What people need to understand concerning the Karmelo Anthony situation is that you can't verb an adjective. In other words, you cannot make something that is an innately static and immutable characteristic of one's personhood, namely skin color, into something that is dynamic and mutable. No one's melanin "causes" them to do anything, whether good or evil. No one murders someone "because" they are black or white or brown-skinned. They murder because they desire in their heart to do so (Mark 7:14-23). Melanin does not reason. It does not discern. It neither judges, determines, nor comprehends. To argue otherwise is to attribute motive and intent to that which is inherently incapable of producing motive and intent. It is the human heart that is, and has always been, the problem.

Where do laws of nature come from? At one conference, I explained that the laws of nature (law of biogenesis, laws of chemistry, laws of planetary motion, laws of physics, laws of mathematics, laws of logic, uniformity of nature, universal constants, etc.) were immaterial and could not be explained by natural processes within a purely materialistic approach to the universe. Such laws can only be explained within a biblical worldview, that God created them. They are the logical orderly way God upholds all things in the universe. “And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17). “Thus says the Lord: If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth” (Jeremiah 33:25). After I had spoken, a young man came to me and said something like, “Sir, I heard your talk, but I still think we all evolved by chance random processes. I can believe that, right?” I responded, “Well, if we all evolved by chance, then our brains also evolved by chance random processes. That means our logic evolved by chance random processes. If our logic evolved by chance, then we don’t know it evolved the right way. Son, you don’t even know if you are asking me the right questions.” His reply? “What was the name of that book you mentioned?” It’s interesting that I’ve had some secularists claim that the laws of nature must be eternal. So I asked them if could there be an eternal God then. They immediately responded with, “No, not at all.” Why wouldn’t they be prepared to consider an eternal God? Because that would mean God owned them as he created them, and God has a right to set the rules and determine right and wrong. People are in rebellion against God. It is a spiritual issue.
