The next wave of African fintech won’t be purely decentralized. And that’s the point. Hybrid products are the real opportunity nobody is talking about. They sit at the intersection of traditional rails and decentralized infrastructure. Familiar enough for the user. Fast enough for the business. Compliant enough for the regulator. Here’s the hard truth though, compliance in Africa is not one thing. It’s 54 different things. What satisfies a regulator in Lagos won’t satisfy one in Nairobi. What’s permitted in Ghana today might be restricted tomorrow. I’ve watched promising projects die not because the product was bad, but because they built first and asked the compliance question last. Compliance is not the enemy of innovation. It’s the floor that makes innovation sustainable. Are you building pure DeFi, hybrid, or have you pivoted after hitting a compliance wall? The real story, not the pitch deck version.

It's always a pleasure doing what I love to do, with my favourite people. Blockfest Africa 2026 was a success 🙌🏾

Before AI solves any problem, it searches. In this video I break down three important search algorithms in artificial intelligence: breadth-first search, depth-first search, and A-star search. You'll see how each one finds a path, what it trades off in speed and memory, and how heuristics help A-star find the best route fast. It's the same idea behind how Google Maps gets you home, with machine learning on top to predict traffic. Which search algorithm would you use in your product?

I didn't attend @blockfestafrica this year, but from what I have seen, this year's edition was far better. While I greet @SamuelXeus for convening this event, I really want to take a moment to shout out to a woman whose strength I absolutely admire: @thesarahidahosa You outdo yourself every single time, Sarah. You inspire more ladies than you can ever imagine, and I celebrate you. Congratulations to you! You pulled it off again. Those of you who attended, how was it for you?

AI just found a hole in the software under ~70% of the web. PHP2Shell: two no-login code-execution flaws, CVSS 9.2, found with frontier models. The gap now is patch speed, not discovery. Updating WordPress doesn't update PHP. Patch PHP, restart every worker. #ai #cybersecurity
On October 20th, a leak put a huge share of the internet at risk. In this video I break down PHP2Shell, two critical PHP vulnerabilities that researchers found with the help of AI. They could let attackers run code on web servers without logging in, steal data, or take over websites, including WordPress sites. AI is finding security flaws faster than ever, but attackers have AI too, so keeping your software updated is how you stay ahead. Do you think AI will make the internet safer, or more dangerous?

Decentralized and distributed are not the same thing, and no, decentralized doesn't just mean blockchain. Centralized means one server does everything. Decentralized is about who's in control, no single authority. Distributed is about how the work is split across many machines. Blockchain is actually both decentralized and distributed at once, which is exactly why people mix them up. Know the difference and you design better systems. As a builder, which one are you working with?

one time a project I was working with was winding down, my salary was slashed the CEO straight up called his take it or leave it offer. even though I was within my right to protest, my mentor (who brought me into the company) said “don’t burn bridges Frank” I retreated. today, I still have a connect with the CEO and that tip has served/saved me countless times.
Do not burn bridges! You never know when you might need that same bridge to cross an ocean.

Recursion scares a lot of people, but it's just a function that calls itself. The trick is the base case, the rule that tells it when to stop. Skip it and your function runs forever until it crashes, a stack overflow. You see recursion everywhere: folders inside folders, and comment replies stacked under replies. Anything that nests inside itself, recursion handles naturally. As a builder, where would recursion fit in what you're building right now?

Your agent isn't broken. Your prompt is. For an AI agent, the system prompt is everything. Writing one is like onboarding a new employee: you give them a role, a goal, the rules, the context, and what good output looks like. Most of the time an agent misbehaves, it's not the model that failed, it's a badly written system prompt. So before you blame the AI, read your prompt like a job description. As a builder, what's the one instruction you always put in your system prompts?

Every time you open a website, two machines shake hands first. It's called the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) three-way handshake: SYN to synchronize, SYN-ACK to synchronize and acknowledge, and ACK to acknowledge, a quick three-step hello that makes TCP reliable before any real data moves. That reliability costs a little time, so web pages, emails, and payments use TCP, while video calls and online games use UDP (User Datagram Protocol) for speed. It's not about which is better, it's about picking the right one for the job.
