📢 📢Some personal news, as they say (a 🧵) ~ I'm in my final days at the @HoustonChron. Words cannot express how much I've learned covering energy and the electric grid, but mostly from working with the team on the business desk. 1/7

NY won last night. Women's basketball won last night. And it feels like the @OregonWBB community robbed in 2020 also won last night 💚💛

HAPPY WNBA TO PORTLAND DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE 🥳🏀 (I am not covering for @OPB because I have my first case of Covid 😭 - I'm fine, just very tired - but once I'm better I'll definitely be following the economic impact of PDX finally getting a team!) #WNBA #WNBATwitter

The real takeaway of this first week is what reasonable longtime WNBA fans have been saying all along: Caitlin Clark needs a little grace and W vets deserve waaaaay more respect than they’ve been given by people who haven’t actually watched the league.

HAPPY WNBA DAY TO ALL WHO CELEBRATE 🥳 Got to chat with @OPBmorning about why it's still an exciting day in Portland even though we don't have a team (yet)🏀 Also, a few legends make an appearance 👀🐐 opb.org/article/2024/05/13/2…

Lots of talk on diversity in journalism recently. From my perspective: diversity and inclusion brings accuracy, because stories are more fully told. A diverse staff helps accuracy: a basic journalism value. Other benefits are great, but fairness and accuracy are important.

I’m grateful and humbled to join with my OPB colleagues in unionizing with SAG-AFTRA ✨🎙️📻
The content creators at Oregon Public Broadcasting and KMHD Jazz Radio are proud to announce we’re forming a union with SAG-AFTRA. We believe this is a crucial next step in ensuring OPB and KMHD continue to support great storytelling and storytellers.

We're preparing for some unusually cold temperatures and snow here in the Portland area — my first impending winter weather event as a reporter since leaving Houston — and NOT ONE PERSON has asked me if the grid will fail.

There are *so many* journalists that got their start at the EW (me included). The importance of that kind of opportunity for young reporters in a J-school college town can't be overstated.
Eugene Weekly forced to lay off entire staff, halt printing due to embezzlement that has left their finances "in shambles." Running (and printing!) an alt weekly in 2023 is a herculean task. Let's keep this incredible pub alive: eugeneweekly.com/2023/12/28/…

I don't know many audio reporters who are as accomplished at capturing joy on tape as @emilycureton. Take 5 minutes to start the shortest day of the year with a delightful visit to the Train Man's world. opb.org/article/2023/12/20/b…

Today, one-day-at-a-time adds up to 9 years of continually abstaining from compulsive overeating, and just over 12 years of living life in recovery ❤ Even when it's challenging, I'm still grateful to feel my feelings instead of covering them up with binge eating.
