BTC is digital gold! multiple attempts at changing BTC back to being a digital p2p cash system will probably just lose more steam at each round of trying. The original intent of bitcoin will not be able to live on via BTC, and will need to manifest in another form
The most popular implementation of bitcoin maximises its digital gold properties at the expense of its usability as a p2p digital cash system
The irony of Bitcoin BLAKE2b: The same people who mocked BCH for being a minority fork now run one themselves.
Worse, their small-block design relies on a high-fee market for long-term security, yet they've abandoned the verynetwork effects needed to sustain it.
The 2017 blocksize war didn’t make BTC hard forks impossible. It made opposition to contentious hard forks part of BTC’s identity and a later hard fork to raise capacity would also lend some legitimacy to BCH’s original argument. That makes such changes politically very difficult

Europe may matter more to BCH than people realize. 👀
And MiCA is part of the reason.
MiCA does NOT mean
“the EU approved Bitcoin Cash.”
That would be misleading.
What MiCA actually does is create
a common regulatory framework
for crypto markets across the EU.
For BCH, that means something important:
Crypto platforms operating under MiCA
must follow rules covering
• authorization
• asset admission
• transparency
• market integrity
• investor protection
• custody and crypto services
There’s another interesting detail.
MiCA restricts trading of crypto assets
with built-in anonymization
when holders and transaction history
cannot be identified by the platform.
BCH is not a privacy-by-default asset.
Meanwhile, regulated BCH investment
infrastructure already exists in Europe.
21Shares ABCH provides
100% physically backed BCH exposure
through a traditional exchange-traded product.
So the bigger story isn't:
“Europe approved BCH.”
It's this:
Europe is building regulated crypto rails,
and BCH already has financial products
connected to those rails.
The infrastructure exists.
Now the bigger question is:
Will meaningful capital eventually use it? 👀

"Bitcoin is collateral" seems to be the new slogan. So let's break down why it's so stupid.
Collateral is what backs the money. It is not the money. Gold was collateral. Then Nixon closed the window and it became a rock people speculate on. You didn't get promoted. You got repurposed.
Saylor's own words: STRC is the bridge between Bitcoin, "the world's Digital Capital," and stablecoins, "the world's Digital Currency." He just told you which one is the money. It's the dollar-denominated one.
Collateral gets sold to defend the liability. Every time. That's the entire function. Aug 3–9: Strategy sold 1,690 BTC at $64,262. Below their own cost basis. To buy back a 12% preferred. That's not a bug in the collateral thesis. That's the collateral thesis working exactly as designed.
You can't post self-custodied bitcoin as collateral. Someone else has to hold it, a court has to enforce it, and a counterparty has to be able to take it. "Not your keys, not your coins" was never an argument against being collateral. It's a description of what collateral is.
Seventeen years of "peer-to-peer electronic cash." The new pitch is that it's really good at being the thing other money gets borrowed against. That's not the same project. That's the consolation prize.

I can define spam extremely easily:
SPAM: when you artificially limit capacity, some transactions can't fit into a block. The otherwise valid transactions that can't fit must be labeled as spam to avoid looking like censorship.
Bitcoin sacrificed on-chain scaling partly so everyone could run a node.
Then BIP-110 showed that a bunch of signalling nodes can still fail to move miners, users or the market.
So what exactly did it sacrifice scaling for?
The COLDCARD issue has devastated parts of BTC Twitter, yet BTC price barely noticed.
Maybe self-custody maxis no longer represent the broader market. Much BTC exposure now sits in ETFs and retirement funds.
BTC culture and BTC capital are becoming two different things.
a strong social norm against hard forks can increase the practical power of whoever controls the dominant implementation and its development process.

It's a massacre! 🙀
Because Bitcoin has replace-by-fee by default now, even if you move your funds before a hacker can get to them, they can still reverse your transactions by paying a higher fee.
This starts a bidding war, leaving even more innocent users as sitting ducks!

Happy Aug 1st Bitcoin Independence Day! 9 years proof BCH can't be hijacked & will deliver P2P cash to the world.
It's been rocky at times, but I personally feel BCH is now at its best ever. And just getting started.
Shoutout to Mark for the photo & @_paytaca_ for Cash3.0!
Saylor may now exert more influence over the public perception of BTC than Roger ever exerted over BCH’s protocol development. Yet nobody calls BTC “Saylorcoin”
A purely peer-to-peer version of digital gold would allow large holders and financial institutions to store value, with occasional final settlement through a capacity-constrained proof-of-work network. Most ordinary payments may occur through custodians or separate payment layers
You cannot fully automate implementation while the implementation itself is how you discover the requirements.
The long-term viability of a decentralized monetary system depends on adapting when necessary.
Adaptation in a decentralized system sometimes requires contentious hard forks.
A chain whose community is willing to fork when necessary may be more resilient over long time horizons

Flawed By Design
Steve Thurmond's negative feedback loop argument is that bitcoin:native's design creates a self-defeating payment network.
When transaction volume rises, fees spike. High fees price out the vast majority of the global population.
That pricing-out reduces adoption, which reduces demand, which reduces price.
The system works only for large institutional transactions where a $1,000 fee is irrelevant against a $1 billion transfer.
He argues this was not an accident and it is precisely what makes Bitcoin useful as a speculative asset class for the wealthy and useless as freedom money for everyone else.
